Husband and Wife Die in a Tragic Hot Tub Incident while on Holiday

I have heard of people drowning in swimming pools due to a faulty suction pump or swimming too close to it , but never realised the same could happen in a hot tub
What made this so tragic was that the wife was sucked under water and the husband was electrocuted trying to dismantle the pump trying to turn it off
They are still investigating but this is what they are surmising
They were missing 12 hours before being found
The couple were staying at a resort in Spain close to Valencia
There are two slightly different versions of the cause so i posted both , but whichever cause it still shows how careful people need to be using them
It makes you aware how dangerous these things can be, and makes you realise that you should never leave children alone in one

I did see this story in the news. They are not completely sure what happened but I have heard stories of people dying in hot tubs before mainly due to alcohol and the heat. We had a hot tub but never had a drink before going in or while we were in there. Unfortunately people just think they are fun way to enjoy the warm water and don’t understand the risks. Plus the risks with getting the chemicals right.

I thought it was strange until they told me that a part had malfunctioned and they needed a replacement, but couldn't find one anywhere
So they have in effect this enormous ornament to look at now
telmel We had ours for many years but last year it needed a small repair, don’t ask me, I leave that all to my husband. Anyway we were going to move so we sold it one of daughters and they got it fixed. We did use it nearly every day but best time was in the winter when it had snowed.
eyeballkerry To be honest i would love to use one in the winter , it would remind me of when i went to Iceland and swam in the hot springs at blue lagoon
It went from very hot to freezing cold when you left the water
I just worry a bit now after reading about what happened to this couple , if it was faulty and they were electrocuted 
MelissaLee1 They have them in some spas M, but most spas are expensive , that's the problem
telmel I have used hot tubs at other places but the standard of hygiene has been appalling in some of them. One had so much foam it was like a bubble bath, I didn’t go in and made a complaint. One time I went to one at a villa which was so badly maintained we refused to use. We had taken our own hot tub test strips with us and these showed how bad the water was. I do worry that people just use them and think they are 100a% okay. Unfortunately the people in the story paid the consequences.
eyeballkerry that's usually due to too much cleaning fluid but never put your head in the water as I got an ear infection a few years ago
I've never been in a hot tub. I got put off by stories of spiders being attracted to them. Musician Jeff Hanneman was bitten by a spider whilst in a hot tub and ended up with necrotizing fasciitis and put in a medically induced coma and had multiple surgeries to save his arm. Apparently its the moisture that attracts spiders.

I have heard about this tragic accident, and so sad that the children found them. It must have been absolutely petrifying for them.
That’s so sad. I’ve never had issues myself & I’d think such incidences are rare - otherwise problems like this would be well known, particularly how fast word travels these days. But yes, always take care in water
Wow thats awful and scary. Its not a surprise it took 12 hours to find them. Given they were on holiday.
