Jam or Cream First ... Sainsburys Got into Trouble!!

In the News

According to SKY NEWS the other day, customers in Sainsbury's were outraged over the use of cream before jam on a fruit scone displayed on an in-store advert in Truro.

The traditional way in Cornwall is jam first, cream on top whereas is Devon it's the other way round.

How do you like it, and does it really matter?

For me, it has to be jam first, you can pile more cream on that way!!!

I agree with you, have you ever tried spreading thick jam over lightly whipped cream, it is a mess.

Actually I go one step further and spread mine with butter before the jam and cream!

As a qualified Chef, Pastry Chef & Baker, I can confirm it's jam first.

I believe the other way round is illegal ๐Ÿ˜€

For me it is jam first then the cream, I can not see how you are going to spread the jam on top of the cream, you will land up with a blob lol

Iโ€™m greedy so a big dollop of strawberry or raspberry jam topped with as much cream as I can balance on top.

For me when I've cut the scone in half and got 2 pieces I spread the jam on both and then the cream on top, makes me feel I've got more scone and lasts a lot longer ๐Ÿคฃ

Definitely jam first then the cream, that just seems like the most logical way to do it.

For me itโ€™s jam first then cream as itโ€™s easier to put the jam on first the dollop lots of cream on top for both sides of the scone

Jam first ๐Ÿ˜ but I wouldn't be outraged of someone served a scone the other way round.

Down here in Devon and Cornwall this issue does matter! That said I'm with the Cornish despite living in Devon, although Id actually leave out the cream and just have double jam!
