  3. Another John Lewis Closure

Another John Lewis Closure

Other

.. The John Lewis store in Grand Central is permanently closing in Birmingham.

This John Lewis store is massive ..it cost them 35 million pounds to make it and sadly it's going to close forever. That's nearly 400 jobs in this particular site.

Apparently John Lewis said they were struggling already pre covid times..but now understandably they just couldn't survive.

I can imagine the rent costs of Grand Central being over the roof too

What's next 😐

All these more premium shops are at risk. We have built up huge debts and people's wages will be under huge pressure in the future and many people will become much poorer. I've visited many John Lewis stores but rarely bought anything but if I saw anything I liked there I would then get it later from a cheaper supplier.

There’s more to come, but not surprised. Hopefully it’ll give companies the chance to reevaluate their business, as some are out of touch with customers

This was announced awhile ago but yeah it is disappointing. It's not been there for long as well. It is meant to be the flagship store for Grand Central. So much for that. I've never shopped at John Lewis mind you, always found them too expensive

Yes it’s a shame that more people will loose their jobs, as for being more expensive, you may need to look at the whole picture, the customer service, the length of guarantees etc. They also have a five year plan for any store if it doesn’t make the results it needs in the first five years it closes.

A shame people will lose jobs and moving business more online has its downsides like not being able to see in person the items, compare between others, get advice from store staff which is a bit more aware of the other products of that section compared to online staff.

I wonder what they will do with the site.
