John Lewis has warned it could close shops as a plunge in profits forced it to cut staff bonuses to their lowest level in almost 70 years
I already saw a few Waitrose shops shut a couple of years ago, as I suspected it probably shouldn’t have set up shop in those areas, so I guess there are lots of sites that are indeed not profitable
it appears only Aldi and Lidl seem to be making money these days, and all the older, established ones are dying out
would you miss your local John Lewis or Waitrose if they shut?
Yes I would. We need to keep these shops going and others like them otherwise we are going to be left with these German stores and Amazon. Once this happens they will have no competition and prices will rise.
I guess you’re right. I don’t consider John Lewis to be a greedy company, but they probably have spread themselves thinly, particularly in this day and age when they have so many competitors. The irony is that with how things currently are, they’re probably raking it in with the sale of toiletries and household goods, as all their shelves were empty - they’re probably going to report having made huge profits this quarter! If only they’d known that all they needed was to get an ample supply of toiletries and household goods to keep them flowing for the public...lol
