Can You Judge a Person by Their Looks?

Other

I have long believed that we have lost the ability to use our gut instinct and I have spent the last few decades using mine and testing it's accuracy. I believe the saying 'you get the face you deserve ' and meeting new people all the time I am seldom wrong in my judgement upon further acquaintance.

Of course there are always those (especially men) who are huge, tall and not pretty but turn out to be gentle giants, conversely there are kind looking people who are quite unpleasant.

Don't we do it everyday subconsciously?

Yes definitely. But we often choose to ignore our instincts when it comes to relationships. That inner voice is telling us the other person is selfish, controlling, drinks to much but we think love will conquer all.

My gut instinct is never wrong about people, I just need to not let my heart try and change my initial thoughts about people. I can instantly tell when people are lying too. So many times I have taken an instant dislike to people and others have said 'oh they're OK just give them a chance' and time and time again I have been proved right. It isn't a nice feeling though

I did a course in human communication once and was not surprised to learn that 70% is body language and gestures and only 30% actual speech. I would imagine that all that developed long before speech and we should get back in touch with our instincts.

Lynibis Totally agree. It is why babies and animals know whether to trust something or someone, they have nothing to go on apart from natural instinct. It is also why communicating on social media platforms or pages gets misinterpreted as there is no facial communication or body language to go off of

If you look at your Gut anatomically it looks like another brain, my theory it is your second brain which is why the saying is "gut feeling" gut generally for many "Gut feeling" is never wrong. Trust your second brain "The Gut"

Yahya I know something is wrong when my 'spidey senses' start tingling. Looking at my gut I must have a massive brain

I think so, an old neighbour has recently been outed by a vigilante type group for engaging with a 13 year old. I'm not surprised I always thought something was off with him and kept well away.

Sometimes you can, yes.

Whilst we can't really help the way we look, you can sometimes tell a lot about a person by looking at their eyes. As the saying goes; "The eyes are the window to the soul".

DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER, BUT THINGS LIKE BEING SHY OR CONFIDENT YOU CAN TELL

WHEN SOMEONE HAS THIS IN THEIR CHARACTER BUT THEN AGAIN YOU NEVER KNOW

THEY CAN BE FAKING IT! 😂

NOW SOMEONE RUDE

YOU CAN'T ALWAYS TELL THEY MAY JUST BE LOOKING STUBBORN OR ANGRY,

OR THEY NATURALLY HAVE THAT SERIOUS STRONG LOOK

THERE ARE TIMES IT'S JUST SO OBVIOUS AND YOU CAN TELL SOMEONE IS RUFF

OR IS UNRESPONSIBLE

BY INSTINCT AND WAY THEY DRESS AND AT TIMES BY THEIR LOOKS BUT YOU CAN'T KNOW THEIR

FULL CHARACTER AT ONCE, SO CAN'T JUDGE COMPLETELY

LIKE ME PEOPLE LOOK AT ME AND THEY DON'T EXPECT ME TO BE STUBBORN AND A VERY STRONG

PERSON WHEN THEY SEE IT....

THEY ARE SO SHOCKED,AND TELL ME...

THEY DIDN'T EXPECT THIS FROM ME, BECAUSE I DON'T LOOK THAT WAY.

THEY ARE SHOCK WHEN THEY FIND OUT AM A BOMBOY..

MOST PEOPLE WHERE SHOCK WHEN I TOLD THEM, OR WHEN THEY REALISE

THING IS AM MOSTLY WEARING BLUE MY FAVOUITE COLOUR

WHAT WHERE THEY EXPECTING????

THEY HAVE NEVER SEE ME IN PINK I DISLIKE PINK BUT LIKE RED

THING IS I THINK THEY EXPECT CERTAIN THINGS BY LOOKING AT MY FACE...

MY FACE SHOWS MOST OF MY FEMININE SIDE OF ME...

Although people think they can judge others by LOOKS they are seldom right.

I would never judge a person by their looks - I've seen far too many people who did so in very bad relationships or lacking real friends. I've also seen plenty of "not so good looking" people who I'd personally have as friends than some much better looking people.

That is not to say I don't sometimes form an opinion of people quite quickly - but NEVER by looks.

How on earth can you judge a person by their looks. Absolutely impossible.

Not looks as in beauty or ugliness, but 'the look' of someone. Whenever a particularly evil crime is committed and a picture of the perpetrator is shown you can often see the evil and hatred in their eyes, and sometimes they are quite good looking.

I think some comments have been made on the title alone, not the original post I wrote regarding gut instinct. I in no way meant that anyone should be judged by their visual look of beauty or lack of it. Some of the nicest people i know are plain looking and I include myself in that as I was never pretty even when young lol!

I think people do subconsciously and it's a dangerous thing to rely on; much better to try and judge people on merit.

There are times when it could save your life. My ex husband had a friend that none of us women liked because he was smarmy and gave us the creeps as women. However, hubby and other guys thought he was a nice guy as they did not get the 'vibes' from him that we did. I do know, however, that I would not have ever been alone with him.

I don't make judgements are in whether someone is a good person or not based on their looks or levels of wealth - you know socio-economics. No, I don't do that. Do I notice whether someone is attractive yes I do. same with if they are not attractive. It will not change how I interact with them. but then doesn't everyone notice if someone is attractive? 🤔 😊

Yes absolutely but this thread has gone a little off subject and it feels as if commentators think I was judging people on looks . It started off as a chat about gut instinct so I hope everyone understands i was talking about maybe losing our animal instincts when it comes to assessing a person's character. I apologise if people have misunderstood.
