TheChimp despite what many seem to think, the "freedom of speech" guarantee doesn't give you the right to say anything you want, anywhere you want. You can't preach freedom of speech when spouting hate speech/racism/homophobia/xenophobia, that's not how it works and that's not allowed. So yes, it's a good thing that Twitter have imposed a consequence for someone who posted such things.

TheChimp That's hilarious.. having the freedom to voice your opinions doesn't give you the freedom to be racist. You have freedom to act freely so long as you do not infringe on another persons freedom, such as by being racist or spouting hate speech, that is why we have hate crimes and laws that protect people against racism, homophobia etc. Funny that you are arguing that we should be tolerant to other people's opinions but want my comments removed because you don't agree with them

I was just trying to make the point that if someone didn't agree with what you have been saying, that they could try and get your opinion 'cancelled' in your world.

It seems like you only agree with free speech if you agree with what people are saying.

TheChimp no I absolutely agree with free speech where I don't agree with what others say, I am just pointing out that freedom of speech doesn't give people a free pass to be racist, homophobic etc. I think we should be accepting of different opinions and am personally very open to others opinions, but that doesn't mean we should allow hate speech.

TheChimp I’m pretty sure most atrocities began with ‘freedom of speech’ if what you say doesn’t need to be manipulated in order for a group of people to begin to loath another for their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or religion it’s not freedom of speech it‘s hate. The ‘Freedom of speech’ rhetoric is mainly banded around when someone is trying to justify comments that the majority won’t tolerate and incite the minority (thankfully!). Hence why most of the country think she’s a hateful Dragon with the constant need for attention. The quickest way to have freedom of speech reduced is to allow it to be used as an excuse for behaviour like hers.
