Katie Hopkins Banned from Twitter

In the News

Am disappointed I think she's a very open minded person I followed her and piers Morgan. Sadly freedom of speech didn't help her. You either liked her or not.

I read about that and it’s silly, as twitter is still full of twits, even if you want to start taking them out one by one. I actually never disliked her, and quite liked her direct, no nonsense approach on the apprentice. Her main downfall (reason why people don’t like her) is her need to push her views in a pantomime way, always playing the villain. But I guess she was hungry for fame and attention

And the fact she is racist, homophobic, classist and a massive hypocrite to boot...but apart from that she ain’t too bad 😳

User5381 I dont waste my time following people or news platforms about people that mean nothing to me. The last time I saw her was on the apprentice, and she may have been classist then, but all the other stuff you’re saying she is may or may not be true. I wouldn’t know, nor would I care. But the fact you have formed such opinions yourself says more about you than about her

Freedom of speech is one thing but hate speech is another. A lot of her stuff was just to incite hatred and a fair few was not real but twisted and made to look real by her and others. Also you need to remember Twitter is a private non-govermental company so can do whatever they want. You break their rules you pay the price for it.

SonsOfPitches She is a horrible odious woman, but should be allowed to say what she wants.

Freedom of speech is everything.

TheChimp yeah I agree, horrible woman but can say what she wants on a platform that allows it. Twitter isn't one. I'm sure she'll find a way to spew her crap another way.

TheChimp despite what many seem to think, the "freedom of speech" guarantee doesn't give you the right to say anything you want, anywhere you want. You can't preach freedom of speech when spouting hate speech/racism/homophobia/xenophobia, that's not how it works and that's not allowed. So yes, it's a good thing that Twitter have imposed a consequence for someone who posted such things.

lornaae Errrrrrm, freedom of speech gives you exactly that, whether you're in the right or wrong.

I don't agree with you, so I will contact admin to try and get you and your comments banned.

lornaae having freedom of speech doesn't make you racist does it TheChimp is saying people can't tell us what we think I didn't create topic for arguing it was to see if people agreed with her being banned. I like piers Morgan too people find him a bully but he's to the point without care just like Katie was

TheChimp That's hilarious.. having the freedom to voice your opinions doesn't give you the freedom to be racist. You have freedom to act freely so long as you do not infringe on another persons freedom, such as by being racist or spouting hate speech, that is why we have hate crimes and laws that protect people against racism, homophobia etc. Funny that you are arguing that we should be tolerant to other people's opinions but want my comments removed because you don't agree with them😂😂

Ann1984 I'm not saying that having freedom of speech makes you racist, I'm merely pointing out that having freedom of speech does not enable or protect people to spout hate speech without consequence

lornaae Of course I don't want your comments removed, you donut.

I was just trying to make the point that if someone didn't agree with what you have been saying, that they could try and get your opinion 'cancelled' in your world.

It seems like you only agree with free speech if you agree with what people are saying.

TheChimp no I absolutely agree with free speech where I don't agree with what others say, I am just pointing out that freedom of speech doesn't give people a free pass to be racist, homophobic etc. I think we should be accepting of different opinions and am personally very open to others opinions, but that doesn't mean we should allow hate speech.

TheChimp Don't quite get what you're trying to say. That it's ok for people to spout hate speech? Inclusive of racist and homophobic language and that those who are offended by such are narcissistic? Think you need to check yourself there

lornaae See my meme and get a grip.

What you're saying is that everyone that doesn't agree with you are wrong.

There's always two sides to an argument, but you just want to hear your side of it.

TheChimp not at all what I'm saying. There's more than two sides to an argument. I'm fine with people not agreeing with me as long as their doing so isn't discriminatory

TheChimp I’m pretty sure most atrocities began with ‘freedom of speech’ if what you say doesn’t need to be manipulated in order for a group of people to begin to loath another for their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or religion it’s not freedom of speech it‘s hate. The ‘Freedom of speech’ rhetoric is mainly banded around when someone is trying to justify comments that the majority won’t tolerate and incite the minority (thankfully!). Hence why most of the country think she’s a hateful Dragon with the constant need for attention. The quickest way to have freedom of speech reduced is to allow it to be used as an excuse for behaviour like hers.

User5381 You are about as wrong as someone can be.

So what do you want? Do you you want it to be like old Soviet Russia under Stalin or China under Mao?

If we had your way, there would be no protests, no BLM, no Pride etc.

Fair play to you, I was in a good mood until you spouted your nonsense.

But then again, I believe in free speech, so you are welcome to your view even though I don't agree with it 👍

The problem I had with her was some of it being targeted harassment. She gave that girl from Little Mix a lot of abuse. Also, Trump once quoted her in a positive light. There's something wrong when that man endorses you.

TheChimp no, censor people who spout hate speech. Yes, we should allow people to have different opinions, but there's a big difference between people sharing different opinions and people posting hate speech all over social media.

lornaae You don't really know what 'free speech' is if you want to censor certain people's opinions.

TheChimp I don't think you understand what free speech is if you think it includes people being able to say anything (even if this includes hate speech) without consequence. Stop telling me to get a grip and instead do some reading https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/free-speech-doesn-t-mean-speech-free-all-consequences-despite-ncna1026911

lornaae No, I don't think that YOU understand what free speech is.

You can't just pick and choose what people say and chastise them for their beliefs.

If there is a consequence, so be it, but don't you be telling people what they can say and comment about.

If this was taken to the extreme in the past, immigrants wouldn't have had a voice or a view and we'd be in a right sadder state.

TheChimp I'm not saying we pick and choose what people say, I'm pointing out that there are consequences and saying that this is a good thing, people should receive consequences for hate speech - such as Katie Hopkins being banned from Twitter, which is what this is all about

lornaae But you are picking and choosing based on your comments.

We should all have the right to say what we want even though other people don't agree with us.

I don't see why Katie Hopkins should be banned from Twitter because of her views.

She is a disgusting human being, but should be allowed to say what she wants.

TheChimp because we can allow people to say what they want as long as what they're saying isn't infringing on people's rights, so someone is allowed to say that they don't like someone but they can't call them a racist term - or at least not without consequence

nina090976 She has respected other people's views, it's just that she doesn't agree with them or just inflames the topic for a reaction.

The woman is absolutely horrible, but we can't start muting people because of their views however so rancid.

I don't like her (or Piers Morgan), but I also don't like censorship, so I'm not in favour of the ban. Especially, given there are others on Twitter with more followers saying similar things. Her views were already easy enough to avoid by not following her.

What does she really do? I know that she was a businesswoman awhile ago but now she just talks and writes stuff in the media. She doesn't seem to really do much other than publicly criticise people.

She has been in quite a number of TV programmes but nothing that I would consider a real job like plumber, school cook or a teacher explaining something to a child that might lead to the child getting a good job.

Not many people seem like her or have a good opinion of her, so why is she still existing on the public platform? I thought shock jockeys had a short life span...
