Kids Cough Treatment

My son is 7. He often gets cough several times in the cold season. Personally I think he has mild asthma but gps keeps telling me "he's too young to be sure"?! Anyway during these scary times i feel anxious that he will get it again and the school will overreact and he'll need to stay home most of the autumn/winter. I give him vitamins daily. Bought dehumidifier for his room. I dont know what else I could do? Has anyone got tried and tested tips which works?
For a cough I swear by vick on feet with warm socks to sleep. A lot of kids have coughs at winter and it’s going to be hard for everyone. Hopefully they get enough test so schools can do it and gps
Ann1984 that's my worry because usually I feel pressure to take him back as soon as he is a little better... but now I feel the situation might be reversed. In March few days before lockdown school phoned for me to collect him because he was coughing...he didnt have temperature no other symptoms just a dry cough as he often gets..
