Do You Know the Recommended Amount of Cereal?
Ask a Question
I read that the recommended amount of cereal that I have is 40g. I weighed that out this morning and I can’t believe how little it looks in the bowl! I don’t understand how that’s meant to fill you up and last until lunch time. Have you ever weighed out your cereal?
MelissaLee1 haha I used to do that but then I realised I’m way above the recommended amount
Jerseydrew Childrens portions are even smaller, when I poured out my cereal for 40g that looked like the childrens portion
No. I stopped eating cereal years ago as I don’t really enjoy it & it’s not as healthy as it has been promoted to be - in fact, it’s often more calorie laden, junk filled & overloaded with sugar (usually the commercial brands are, so you’re perhaps better off with a portion controlled cereal bar - which I am not a fan of either). When I was a kid, we used to get those mini packs of a variety of cereals - I imagine that’s perhaps the portion size that’s recommended for adults (to think I used to live cocopops! It’s just junk chocolate in milk with crunchy bits that’s like a soft biscuit/cracker). When I was dieting eons ago, I even suspected Kellogg’s special K was bad for you when I started craving eating it outside of breakfast time (sometimes I had it as a dinner) - no one usually craves diet food lol
hspexy I agree most cereals are very bad for you, no one has come up with a perfect healthy cereal. I usually have malted wheats with one teaspoon of sugar (I know the sugar is bad but I feel you need that boost in the morning). I think malted wheats alone are quite healthy and good for your digestive system, along side Rice Krispies, weetabix and bran flakes. Boring cereals I know but in my opinion that’s the best we have to choose from.
I really don't believe Cereal is meant to fill a person. I always thought the person that benefited the most from cereal was Mr Kellogg's bank balance I stopped eating breakfast year's ago. Saves me money and I don't miss it. It did not fill me up, so now I just have a snack around 10.30am.
