Ladies That Lunch
Other
I have 3 friends who I see separately and we take it in turns to do lunch for each other. It can be something very simple like a bowl of soup and crusty roll or something that takes more effort. Today I am making Paella.
One of them comes to mine most Sunday evenings and we watch a film so I do anything from a slow cooker stew, roast dinner or a tuna pasta bake. (I don't go to hers as her two huge dogs frighten the life out of me but she is my bestie of 30 plus years).
Do you cook for friends and what do you like to make?
I meet with my sister's every weekend with all our children and we alternate making lunch. Normally would just be a sandwich though ( ham and brie with cranberry sauce my favorite!), vegetable crudites and houmous and a treat for after!.
It's lovely that you and your sisters do this as it is so important for family to stay close. All relationships are like plants......they have to be nurtured in order to flourish. Plus all the cousins will hopefully stay close as they grow.
I have 3 sisters and one lives in Spain, and the other 2 live 1.5 hour drive away and 3rd 2.5 hours away. Even at my age I drive the 2.5 hours to see my sis and she to me, we phone about once a week. The other two aren't interested in maintaining contact despite phonecalls, invites to stay, sending of birthday cards etc. So....I have given up as obviously their friends are more important. Last time we were all together was at brother in laws funeral 18 months ago. Great time, no animosity, just not particularly close any more.
I commented and whoooosh! it disappeared so will try again. I have a 'go to' fail-safe recipe that I am using more regularly because nobody finds fault with it. A grand statement, I know, but it's a Tom Kerridge recipe - buttermilk chicken - so not bragging about my own cooking. The recipe uses chicken thighs because of the full flavour but chicken breasts can be used and it is still flavoursome and juicy. Basically, the chicken is marinated in a buttermilk and herb mixture for 4 hours then it get coated in a herb mixture and oven baked for 25 to 30 minutes. It ticks a lot of boxes - faddy eaters, allergy suffers, low fat dieters and people who don't enjoy red meat. I
angemski sounds good and I probably have the recipe as I have 3 Tom Kerridge cook books. My problem is time because my job is one where I am in and out of home all day. When I get my week's work schedule and see I have a lunchtime gap i quickly invite a friend to catch up or we would never get a chance! Today was great whole day off. Granddaughter is a veggie who eats fish and her favourite meal since age 3 is trout and tatters at nana's. Trout, onion rings, new potatoes with butter and cheese, grilled tomato and sweet corn and peas. Wish grandson was same, her cousin, soooooo fussy.
Wow, that is great....really good idea, and it gives u day offs from cooking. I would love to have great friends like that, but I do not have them...
I think it is different when u have family and u have to cook them daily....
I must admit having friends/family round makes me cook otherwise I wouldn't bother just for me. Although I don't work long hours I often don't get home until 6/7pm and the last thing I want to do is cook. I end up with a sandwich or soup or anything I have worth eating in the fridge!
I tend to meet up with friends by eating out, which just gives us a chance to let our hair down and try new places to eat. I’d love to do the home dinners things one day, but that’ll be when I’m more settled
I often go for lunch with my sister in law. Usually a pub lunch when we have the time. We try and find at least enough time to go once a month.
