Lavender Oil and Other Oils
Ask a Question
I'm big fan of lavender oil for various treatments such as burns, insect bites etc but I've discovered something new.
I had a wart come up on my arm and I haven't had one since I was a teenager when I had quite a few and had to have hospital treatment with that awful stuff to try and burn them off.
A week of lavender oil and it's pretty much dried up. Just wondering what other people have found lavender oil or other oils good for. Note - this is not medical advice.
I also love coconut oil for skincare - really makes my skin nice and soft.
Thanks for your tip. I always have some lavender and tea tree oils, prefer to try those oils before turning to chemists.
Lemon essential oil is brilliant for chilblains. I’m a filliter and in the winter with the icy cold water running down from the bench I used to get them on the top of my leg, they got so bad they ulcerated. I tried every cream going and nothing worked until I read about lemon essential oil. I can safely say I have never had chilblains since. A few drops in the bath until they cleared up. Job done
heatherduthie I've used citronella for taking abroad to deter spiders and roaches (always dotted a bit in the rooms on cotton wool and it works well). Never heard of lemon oil for chilblains - my dad gets them so I'll definitely mention it.
I didn’t know much about lavender oil, so I will give it a go if ever needed - thanks! I too use coconut oil for skin, and it’s great for hair too, something I have only done in the last few years myself. Olive oil is also good for hair and skin. And clove oil for pain relief
Tea tree oil is brilliant to dab neat on insect bites, stops the itching almost immediately.
Tea tree and rosemary diluted in water in a spray and combed through the hair will stop nits in their tracks, better than harsh chemicals.
I really don't like the smell of tea tree but have used it on bites too but also like lavender for that too.
I didn’t know that, that’s really helpful thank you! I’m pregnant so not allowed to use anthisan and i keep getting bad insect bites at the moment in Scotland hopefully tea tree oil will help!
sarahgreen15 I was advised about getting the oil and tea tree wipes prior to going on a trip to Scotland lol. Sadly it had to be cancelled due to covid but I am determined to go next year or 2022. In case you don't know, you can also buy tea tree bars of soap. I get mine from Sainsbury's.
PS for me a dab of oil stops the itching all day but I put some on when I get up and before bed.
I always take peppermint oil abroad and if you hate spiders put a couple of drops on cotton wall balls. Spiders hate it!
That's a really good tip. Twice last week I found a large spider in my bedroom, one on my bed! Result of open windows during that heat, thank goodness it has cooled down.
I mostly just use lavender before I go to bed, didn’t think about it being used for things like this! Very interesting and will try to keep in mind
I have a small wooden box with a selection of oils and have occasionally made up potions for friends with aches and pains. No, I am not a medical person but there are no contra indications for oils at all. Obviously you would not use almond oil as a carrier for someone with a nut allergy. But ginger, eucalyptus, lavender etc in a base oil and used to massage joints really does help.
I have always love tea tree oil for acne / spots.. it dries them up and kills the bacteria so reduces spreading.. I’ve got loads of tea tree containing products plus pure stuff..
I love essential oils. I use lavendar oil alongside any other suitable essential oil with a bowl of hot water as a homestyle facial steamer it's great as lavendar is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. It helps me relax too and is good for inducing sleep.
You can get a napkin and out 1 or 2 drops of lavendar oil on there and place it under your pillow case - great for promoting sleep.
Also use some cotton balls dabbed with lavendar oil and place them around the house for a natural home deodorant
