If LD Removed the Points/reward Scheme, Would You Still Be on Here?

Ask a Question

Not that I’m suggesting this would happen, but it would be interesting to know, particularly those who have been around a long time (as those who haven’t, perhaps having already earned their fiver, seem to just disappear and probably just set up new accounts to do it all over again)

I would still stick around to look at the deals and have a chat, probably post a few aswell but probably not as often.

I believe that may be the same for most of us. So the point/reward system is indeed a good motivator to keep people on here more regularly

I would, but I wouldn't post as much as I wouldn't feel as motivated to do so.

Why on earth would people set up another account to earn a fiver? The time it takes to earn the next £10 or £35 would be exactly the same time as it would take to earn 9 lots of fivers. I know to some people £5 is a useful amount but to go to those lengths in order to get it quicker?

I personally do not use LD for anything except chat and competitions but I do post deals to up the points. I never post Amazon deals or supermarket deals with a specific item on sale, but do try to post something different, interesting.

To answer the question, if there were no rewards I would continue to post comps as I figure we all benefit but would not bother posting deals. I would still be chatting away on here because it's a pleasure not done for points, they are a bonus and I post far more than my allowed 5 per day.

You’d be surprised at the lengths some people go to on here to do certain things. Some perhaps even create multiple accounts to do not so great things, like pester people just for fun. But its part of what happens when there is higher traffic online in general

I would still use it. I rarely post deals anyway. I would still use it for the competitions and the chat section. I definitely post more than 5 comments a day so the points are a bonus to me.

Yes as long as it's a fair system, not like another well known site where selected people can earn rewards and others can't.

However the site would still earn commission from click throughs, so I don't think it's at all unreasonable for them to share a small amount as they do currently do with the contributors .

I probably wouldn't spend as much time on it (I hardly do anyway). I'd look at the free things now and then. Probs the vouchers/discount bit on occasion.

I probably would just sit in the chat section if there were no points, maybe look at stuff on the freebie page but I don't really use the site for deals. I have too much stuff anyway

I probably would use the site still but probably not half as much if im being honest. I do post in chat more than the 5 times for points but I never post more than 3 deals as I’ve had a message that i was a sharing machine before when I posted a couple extra. I sometimes post vouchers hardly ever post comps cuz I’ve had difficulty sharing them in the past and rarely share freebies.

It is a good motivator to earn points and get rewards. Maybe there are some people who do this for the fiver but they also have to work for that reward, share deals, spend time on site and collect points too.

Absolutely. It's a hobby and I enjoy the banter. The points and vouchers are simply a bonus.

What I would be interested to know is the following:

- The uptake of vouchers per level?

- How many visitors have reached what levels?

- The number of peeps posting each category?

I think it's fascinating in terms of growing communities, particularly from the Marketing angle. Some of you know that I am super curious and do like a bit of analysis and a pivot table!!!

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest. 🙂

I don't post deals, freebies, etc..

I'm mainly here just for the chat section. I do have a little look through the deals and If i feel like a deal is worth a like, I'll give one.. sometimes I've struggled to find 1 to like, other times I have liked 10+ (when pete used to post lol)

Some people clearly are ONLY here for the points though.. There is one that posts 3 'deals' a day from the same website that has been going on for over 3 months.

And there's the ones that post 3 'deals' of the same item like 3 different flavoured pot noodles lol.

Points are a bonus I suppose, but some people do abuse the system..

LittleLisaMarie I queried the different flavours of the same item and was told to report them as being duplicates. If people do report maybe those people will get the message when losing a 100 points for each 'deal'. It is quite cheeky to post an item and then get 300 points for adding another two flavours!

Lynibis I was told to report a member for constantly only posting 'deals' from one website.. I did and the report got rejected and they're still posting from the same website now lol. So I don't really bother reporting now unless it's clearly a scam.

Lol. I’m sure they’ll get bored eventually. It’s not hard to get to the first fiver, but it gets increasingly painful as you go on to rack up points, so my guess is they just create another account via a referral to gain the extra points. I guess some people really, really want the vouchers! 😜

I'll be honest and say I'm too lazy to scour the internet for something I'd consider a great deal lol.. I could just post random flavours of asdas own flavoured water for example (like some of the posters do lol)

I'd feel like I was abusing the point system if I did. 😂

If anything this is what I would consider a hobby, from what I've seen from some posters it's more of a chore.

hspexy I'd probably enjoy it too if I had the patience to look lol.

It's just the lazy ones that always post from from boohoo, or pretty little thing for example (and the different flavoured pot noodles 😂)

That I feel should be restricted on getting points for posting because it's purely for their own gain and not to contribute to the website.

LittleLisaMarie Not much point even reporting obvious scams - when you're told "it looks like your report was incorrect" when it clearly wasn't.

I personally have never come to LD because of the rewards. I even took some time to realize that they existed hahaha

I've won in competitions a lot, really much more than 5 years posting deals/freebies/vouchers every day could pay on Amazon Vouchers.

If I am honest, I enjoy the chat and deals as much as the points rewards. I have become a little obsessed with finding different types of prize comps and share quite a few to the point of being worried that I will get blocked for over-sharing. It's really hard to hold on to a comp until the next day (for 10 points) when one of our community could enter and win. I expect a stern warning in the notifications most days. ...😜 😂

Initially yes as i loved this website. But my daughter got bullied on here, and the bully wasnt removed because its a very clicky site and they bring in deals so im purely here for points now and nothing more. There is no support whatsoever

There are several bullies who have disappeared over the last few months and I guess most of us have had a bad comment at some time.

As for being clicky, it is inevitable that some folk with similar interests and ideas will be drawn to each other and it is up to everyone else to join in the chat. I have never ignored anyone on my own threads but I admit that I refuse to take part in silly chats where a quick look on Google would supply the answer. Point gatherer topics are usually not worth the effort and many people don't even reply to those who answer them.

A case in point is the thread what to do if you have no friends, you can find it on search. Good topic but not one single reply from the poster.

Sorry to hear that. The LD community is general friendly, but as it’s grown with more attention and traffic, it has perhaps attracted some undesirables, so some may have suffered the consequences. But Im sure they are working on it - there is a mute button you can use to ignore comments from individuals. And there will always be clicky groups I’m afraid - very much something that naturally occurs in group situations

If you click on your points next to your icon it will take you to a page which shows you how to collect points, what rewards you earn for them and where you have earned them so far.

When I first signed up to LD I mainly came here for the competitions. I initially didn't look into the points and didn't know they could be exchanged for an Amazon e-Gift Card. I would still come for the competitions, but there would probably be a lot less posts on the site without the reward scheme.

I'm not here for the points and never was from the start.

You get so many people posting deals from a same crappy site saying 10% off this, 15% off that and 20% off the other.

I think that the format has to change to stop junk posting and self promotion.

I joined as I like to enter competitions. They are here in one place and you can mark which you entered. I like it a lot. Then I discovered points and I like to collect them I am not going to lie. I am posting deal, competitions, freebies and vouchers. But noy different flavour of noodles of course. I try to post variety of offers. I create couple of chats but I do it very rarely as often I can find answer in previous chats or internet.

I was doing the comps long before I wised up and signed up. Don't often post deals/vouchers unless I see something that's completely different - anyone can go to supermarket. Always get the freebie wrong and late with a lot of comps 😞 but I do and would continue with the interaction 🙂

I think I would. I initially came across the site due to my love of competitions. I started looking at some of the deals then reading and occasionally posting on chat. Again it was a while before I even knew about the points. Earning points is an added bonus for me but is never going to be a way of getting rich.

I've only joined recently and it seems good and I like the chat forums too. I did post quite alot on another deal site but I'm a bit of a convert to here now but think the rewards system could be a bit fairer on here rewarding those whose deals earn commission.

There are quicker ways to earn vouchers in my opinion on survey sites otherwise rather than posting deals and stuff on here etc each day if that's your only aim!

I've been here since 2017, and for a long time I just posted competitions without ever caring about points. Now I spend almost 100% of my time here just checking reports and other problems.

Counting all the competitions in which I have been drawn, I think the value of the vouchers is insignificant, even for those who follow a daily routine to maximize points, so I would absolutely remain here as long as the competition page continues. 🤣

The points system has to be reviewed as a matter of urgency . Dross deal after Dross deal . Be honest members , the majority just post any old rubbish deals to earn the points .

Has to be looked at - say 5 points per deal posted then 5 points per "like" received or something along those lines .

Might stop the endless Amazon "Chinese Tat" jewellery posts and 3 choices from a clothes retailers sale page with totally unfeasible RRPs to make the "discount" look good .

If members got rewarded for good deals they actually might search a bit harder for a good deal or not bother posting a rubbish deal as they so often do now .

Incidentally the change would not be good for me points wise as many of my deals are for heavily reduced high end golf gear which I accept is of interest to very few members - But at least they are "Deals" .

Anyway I do it because I enjoy sharing deals , not for the points . And if I don't find a deal , maybe for several days - I don't post - Simple !!

I was a member of HUKD long before this site. I posted loads of deals on there because I thought I had found something nobody else had found. That was about true deal hunting. I remember visiting 8 different branches of Tesco because somebody posted a pressure washer that was reduced from something like 100 quid to 20. Granted, I spent another tenner on fuel but I found one! On here, you get rewarded for publishing the weekly list of vegetables Aldi are selling. That's what the points system encourages. Also, criticism. Some people on here absolutely hate it. As long as they are here, that deals page will be plagued with crap because nobody will dare to comment with anything other than "oooh thank you for posting this lovely pack of biscuits, I must go and buy some tomorrow". It's just completely pointless and mundane pleasantry filled drivel which is also rewarded. All I can say is it must be working for business.

Totally agree -As I said previously , when I was after a Laptop I posted many Laptop deals on here (They were good deals and got plenty of "likes" ) - I literally begged for criticism , advice etc - but not a single comment !!

If you are too much of a "shrinking violet " to accept constructive criticism then maybe you shouldn't be posting "non deals " just to gain 100points !

Maybe if members accepted discussion on their deals without going into a "Hissy Fit" this could become a much more informative site ?
