Less Complicated Smart Phone for My Mother

Ask a Question

I need your help to find a mobile deal for my mother. She is an old lady and definitely, old school. I want to gift her a smart phone with less complications and easy to use.

Any suggestions?

iPhone has an extremely basic user interface, but she could get used to an Android. You'd just install the apps, it makes shortcuts automatically and then she would use it.

There's also Windows Phones, but they're pretty much dead.

The term "old" and "elderly" is a bit vague. People in their 60's that I know and see use an Android phone perfectly normal, now, folks in their 70's and 80's prefer a brick phone (Nokia 3310 or so).

I personally wouldn't mind using a brick phone but as long as the Chinese Android phones I have work, that'll do for me till they malfunction or whatever.

I'd say a Samsung galaxy are good phone. I started with a galaxy j5 which is pretty simple to use. I had been given a iPhone5 by my uncle but like you never again an iPhone

Huawei, surely. 😅

But I don't see the problem with generic/unbranded Android phones. They do the same stuff.

Rockman I agree with you. All these brands are overrated yes Hawaii is cheaper then apple and android but there are better and cheaper options available.

My mum (69 years old) is after a phone at the minute too, she won't have a smartphone and wants one with buttons rather than a touch screen. So far she has tried 2 different ones and doesn't like either. Does your mum want a smartphone, will she use it for anything other than calls or texts? If she is anything like my mum she won't be swayed from the idea of anything that doesn't have buttons.

She is 68 and she likes YouTube but doesn't want tv in her room so I was thinking for a phone. She is using smart phones for few years now but still not comfortable with it.

WindowShopper wish my mum would get a smartphone, be much easier. Alcatel do some nice basic smartphones at a good price, normally sim free too

I would say an iphone 6s, 7, 8 or the plus version would be great. I didnt include the 6 because its no longer being supported by Apple so wont get any further software updates. They are so easy to use and if you press the wrong thing then its a simple click of the home button to go back to the main screen. My mother used to have a Doro 🙈 but i gave her my 6s plus nearly 2 years ago and now she is on ebay, facebook etc and even facetimes me now.
