I think I will embrace the home delivery of food in the future. It started out a bit tricky and a little hit and miss but the situation has steadied and I probably won't visit supermarkets as regularly as I did before. It's also been an eyeopener because I've bought what I need rather than what's taken my fancy on the shop visit.

angemski i have always done food shop online, but now doing in-laws same time they don’t know how to use computer so gives me list. They have saved hundreds by not buying what they see. Sadly this virus has killed the high street just need few stores now to go online like aldo food delivery primark and bm and I be happy to never step foot in shop again.

Ann1984 I agree with you - things will never return to as they were. I always had one food delivery a month (Iceland to top up on frozen) and a couple extra before Christmas and I'm also saving money! I am sure there will be many more shops going down the online route in the future. My only gripe has been with the shelf-life of some fresh foods. I am currently waiting for a response on three items - won't name them but I was surprised. This was the next day condition, after the previous evening's delivery.

angemski this happened to me recently. I bought some new potatoes to be delivered on 1st June between 9 and 10pm (so had obviously eaten by then) and the bbe was 1st June and strawberries 2nd June. I used some of the potatoes next day and had to throw rest away as they were squidgey. 1 strawberry was mouldy and quite a few mushy but it's a pain when shopping for 1 as you hope they will last a few days.

Lynibis I honestly thought the picker must have been anosmic with the three things I have an issue with:- carrots were squishy and a white cabbage absolutely stinky! (and oozing liquid from the root) I suppose they are so busy that little time is spent on checking but I object to fresh food being delivered rotten.

Ann1984 Is there an option to do that on Asda, Sainsbury or Iceland? I didn't get round to Tesco because they were always fully booked. (they definitely have the best substitution options though) The best quality, best packed, with the longest shelf life has been Iceland - quite surprised.

Ann1984 Thank you. I've never spotted that one. I've only used the box for the 'isolating/shielding' comments.

angemski The delivery driver once told me, when I had a good natured moan about dates, that the pickers have to do 60 items per hour, so only 1 minute each item! Don't forget though, you can give back anything you don't like look of, it is usually refunded to my account by next day.

But that is easier said than done when you are trying to be quick and not keep the delivery driver waiting, I always forget! The store I use is Sainsburys.

Lynibis Yes, I knew about the pass back before lockdown but if you could see the hilarious palaver of standing back and then collecting the bags then the wipe downs then the gloves off, then the leaving most things where they are for a few hours there is no time to check and pass back as the drivers are away. If there had been time to check I think I would have 'got my arm in' and tapped him gently on the back of the head with my rotten cabbage. 😂 (and didn't want to name but this was Sainsburys)

We have rarely used home delivery for food as we prefer to pick our own products in store and browse the offers /deals etc that are very often not online. Even through this pandemic we have been to the supermarket approx once every 10 days to stock up. Online delivery has it's place and is useful to many people , we're just not one of them . Non food items thou we are happy to buy online, as more often than not you can return the items if they are not suitable or what you expected.

Maybe everything will get back to normal...today it seemed like that to me. Just some store are closed and lots of people are at home, because they are off work.

I usually do all my xmas shopping online anyways as I can’t stand traipsing about looking for stuff as I never know what I want to buy. I will however still plan to take my son around the neighbours trick or treating. You can normally tell which ones will open their doors as they will have decorations in the garden or on the window.

so fast forward to flu season? now no flu will just simply be 'the flu' ever again - people may even be advised to stay at home even if they just have the sniffle
