Let's Play Guess Who It Is
Other
This man sent thousands upon thousands of men to their deaths fighting to realise his dream of ruling the world. He could never admit defeat, calling it retreat, and made his family rulers of every country he brought to it's knees. He was a commoner who rose to unimaginable power but ended as most of his kind do, in ignominious defeat. He had two wives, the first older and unable to give him a child, the second much younger, who gave him a son. He was short, was born in one century and died in the next. Who was he?
I have given nothing to help you look him up but shouldn't be too hard to guess. But if you decide to name him, whether right or wrong, you must leave your own set of clues in order for us to guess a famous figure of your own.
Napoleon Bonaparte?
This woman wrote hundreds of children's books. She was born in South London and had two daughters, she is the most translated children’s author in the world. Who was she?
Well done, is your one Enid Blyton? I have just woken up but will add another after I have had my first coffee of the day!
You will have a head start with this one if you watch Eggheads.
Which Tudor woman was the wife, sister, daughter, niece, grandmother of Kings?
Aw thanks gerrykelly25 not a bad guess, if you go back just a little further you will have the answer. I will come back with answer later today if no one gets it. Can you give us one to guess?
gerrykelly25 Absolutely. Wife of Henry VII, mother of Henry VIII, (forgot mother above) daughter of Edward IV, Niece of Richard III and grandmother of Edward VI and sister of Edward V very briefly King as he was one of the Princes in the Tower.
Give yourself a pat on the back
How about this one. You needn't look far to see her face, she was the head of an ancient race, had two famous lovers who knew each other, in fact you could say they were military brothers!
gerrykelly25 Correcticus!!! did you get the clue about not far to see her face.....my icon lol!
For those who may not know the brothers in arms, not by blood, were Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony. Her son by Caesar was later killed by Octavian, Caesar's adopted son who was a distant nephew.
Lynibis no! I initially thought of Boudicca as she appears on coins. Love puzzles that make you think.
Here is an easier one for those who have not yet joined in: Actor who played alongside Vivien Leigh in a film of the same title as the book by Margaret Mitchell.
‘Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damm’!
This was the first film that saw a black person winning an Oscar.
This man started life as a poor farmer. A man of great intellect, he is now celebrated once a year. His son was born on the day of his funeral.
Still thinking. Thinking along the lines of Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton, but can't think that either of them have a day to celebrate.
First thought was Judy Garland but then after checking found she was born on 10th and died on 22nd June, so will have another think on that one.
Nice easy one for everyone, this Tudor bloke was supposedly born and died on same day, St Georges Day.
Lynibis well done! She was such a good actress! I love the old black and white films.
Well done.....again lol. I think I should have set this up a bit better, but chat is difficult to be organised. I am going to relax and watch a film now so will give the Polish one some thought over night
Lynibis it was too tempting to answer when no one else was joining in! You have hooked me!
This world famous woman was born in Poland and died in Paris. She has two museums named after her and was portrayed in a film by Rosamund Pike.
Marie Curie!
Next one is a male double act, both now deceased. Predecessors of Little and Large maybe? Big in Hollywood but one was English.
Lynibis yes!
Is it Laurel and Hardy? My husband’s hair looked like Stanley’s during lockdown!
Spot on gerrykelly25. It's been fun but I think I will take the day off today. People seem to prefer chat topics about marmite, paint and supermarkets, which is fine, but the points system seems to encourage trivial chat rather than anything serious, they just fade away lol.
This composer was born in Germany. His most famous work is one of the most popular in choral music.
I was an actress who caused a stir with my one liners in films and hollywood I did a play that for the time was risqué and landed me in jail for 10days who am I?
I will have a think about this and come back, but just off the top of my head could it be Mae West?
