Life Hacks That Actually Work?

Ask a Question

Does any one have any life hacks that actually work? Seen a few on other websites but most don’t work.

I use my straighteners to iron clothes when travelling, it works well for me.

I don't really do life hacks or if I do I'm not aware of it

- Not a hack but I use toilet roll as napkins when home...

- I always bring home some packs of Salt and Pepper from McDonald's and pack my lunch with that.

- It's always cheaper to do the Big Mac + Fries questionnaire than getting a happy meal or any other meal for that matter.

- F.lux to change the colour on my screen.

- Activate alerts on gumtree for things I am trying to find/buy for cheap.

- Ziplock bags or this for your food: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ikea-103-391-71-Sealing-assorted-30-pack/dp/B00C65BLD2/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=Seal+Clips&qid=1595813005&sr=8-5

Chilled beer hack : Wrap a wet tissue around the beer and put it in the freezer for 10 to 15 mins for a cold chilled beer.

Wine hack : Freeze grapes to put in wine for a chilled glass of wine without watering it down

Fairy liquid, baking soda and white vinegar - mix together and wipe all over inside of oven, leave overnight and it should wipe off next day leaving it sparkling clean

FRUIT FLY TRAP:

To get rid of fruit flies put some apple cider vinegar in a shallow dish (I used a ramekin), cover with cling film and poke a small hole in it. The flies are attracted to the vinegar and go into the dish and then they can’t get out.

I CAN’T BELIEVE IT ACTUALLY WORKED!

snoogans888 This works and crazy how many it actually attracts! We do the same with an almost empty jam jar and water for wasps!

FG280 Really just water? Oh I’ll definitely have to try that. Bluebottles are the bane of our lives. I’ve seen a hack with copper coins in a bag of water to deter them coming in the house but not tried that yet.

snoogans888 water along with the bits of jam left in the jar .... i.e. don't wash the 'empty' jar! Beer bottles also work with water in them! The wasps will be attracted to the sweet smelling juice and fruity jam. They'll crawl into the jar and eventually fall into the liquid and drown.

FG280 ah perfect. We buy jam that comes in tall skinny jars so can never get the last bit out!

A florist recently told me to add a splash of bleach to your vase of water. It keeps algae forming in the water and flowers stay fresh longer. I was apprehensive that it would kill the flowers, but tried it and it definitely works!

Put a 2L bottle of water in the freezer overnight when on a sunny holiday. Then take the frozen bottle to the pool / beach with you the next day. Drink the lovely ice cold water throughout the day as it melts. No more warm water drinks 🙂

Attach six lengths of sellotape across the vase then arrange your flowers, they stand up beautifully.
