Where is the Line When Loving Your Daughter

Ask a Question

Ok. So, I’m finding this quite difficult to think about & am arguing with myself in my head! Any thought would be greatly appreciated.....

my daughters 17! We have the most amazing relationship! We can have fantastic fun together but the boundary for the little whisper of “mmm, hhmmm, just remember I’m your mum lol” is well and truly set, seen & respected always so it’s nice to have! I have always told her from the day she was born I’ll love you when ur in ur space ship going all the way round the moon, through the stars & right back again so the other day I saw a gorgeous ring I wanted to get her as past of Xmas. It’s specifically from the I Love You to the Moon Range, 925 silver with a solitaire CZ & has written on the band ‘I Love You’ and I know shes love it. Said to my bank manager (hubbie) about it and he said, horrified... ‘r u jokin?? U can’t get her that!! A) it looks like an engagement ring, B) It says I Love you and c) it’s described as an eternity ring!!!! she will be mortified’. The thoughts of any of they points hadn’t even crossed my mind so I’m kinda stuck btwn a rock and a hard place and have no idea whether to go With my own mind or just not bother coz it may be a bit weird...ish???

HEEEEEELLLLLP.....what do you think about it? Is it too far & a bit weird or .......??? Can’t wait to hear ur comments and believe me, any at all would be helpful xxxx

It is nice to hear you have such a great relationship with your daughter. Years ago for my 21st birthday my mom took me shopping for a special present and I chose a diamond ring, which a lot of people comment on asking if I am engaged lol! It doesn’t bother me as I get to tell them it was a present from my parents for my 21st and I love the ring itself even though it looks like an engagement ring. I think you should go for it as you have such a close relationship I’m sure you will know what she likes. If not then you can always exchange it for something else after and have an excuse to go back to the shops together

lol xx

This sounds like my mum and I when I was a teenager. She was my best friend but I also knew she was in charge.

If you know she loves it then buy it for her. She won't be wearing it on her wedding ring finger so it won't be an issue. Plus if she decides that it isn't right for her after all then you can swap it for something else.

My MIL gives my wife valentines day cards and presents. Its kind of weird. But a ring saying i love you is fine i think, id be happy with one of my mum 🤷🏽‍♀️

Well if you know she'll love it then I think you may have answered your own question. 😀

If my mum bought me a ring like that I would be very happy. My daughter (also 17) has asked me to buy her a ring that is an engagement ring because she likes the look of it (and no, she is NOT getting married any time soon), so I would say: "go for it".

Tricky but I'd probably suggest getting it and you can always see if she's happy with it and return or exchange it if need be!
