Is There a Link between Charging for Disposal of Large Items and Fly Tipping?

I've just been watching a tv program about fly tipping and there was a story on a council which due to budget cuts decided to up the price of collecting large items and closing a landfill site and then within 6 months the amount of fly tipping had tripled compared to before the prices went up and the landfill was closed .
Do you suffer from bad flytipping where you are from and what do you think could be done to help the problem ?
There has definitely been an increase in rubbish dumped in our back lane over the last year - when its been impossible to get the council to collect any bulky waste. I think they are now collecting again but the prices have gone up. Having said that people were still dumping there even before the service closed and it was cheaper.
Fly tippers are like large rodents. Loads of places now collect used furniture clothes free of charge. I see all time in my area fly tipping and then people of that community estate cleaning up after them. The estate is running with rats. Must council charge £16 for 3 items whice in fairness not a bad price.
£16 for three items does seem VERY reasonable compared to my own council who charge £19.25 for one item, £38.25 for two and £58 for three. If you haven't noticed anyone wanting to get three items removed one at a time could save 25p (3 times £19.25 = £57.75 not £58). Although the cheapest way of having three items removed would be to have two items removed for £38.25 then another removed for £19.25 making a total of £57.50 saving 50 pence.
Same thieving council sold discount cards (about £6 annually) which entitled pensioners to pay 10p more than the normal price for a swim. I stopped buying one . It's no use pointing these things out to local councillors although one did help me when the council threatened to take me to court for paying my council tax... in advance.
MelissaLee1963 I'm wondering if I wanted to get rid of a three piece suite, that if I nailed the two chairs to the settee (I'm very handy with a hammer and nails) put a Jolly Roger flag on it to make it look like a pirate's galleon, whether it would be counted as one item - I might be pushing it a bit to make an old carpet look like sails though.
It's a false economy for councils to cut bin collections etc.
It just leads to an increase of fly-tipping which costs them a lot more to clean up in the long run.
And don't get me started on recycling. A lot of it ends up in landfill anyway or is exported to other countries where it ends up in landfill there.
I think there definitely is a link - it’s £40 here for between 1 and 3 items and £80 for 4-6, but sofas are charged per person they seat not as 1 item (so a 3 seater sofa is charged £40 by itself). You see sofas especially all over the place as a result. Anything larger than a car is refused at the local tip too, so you can’t even taken them there unless it’ll fit in your car.
Councils just like central government aren't known for their brains as can be seen in many ways including the fact that they don't see any correlation in the lack of council tips being open, lack of roadside collection services and fly tipping. Isn't it funny though, how everyone else CAN see it!
There isn't an issue of fly tipping where we live. Our council still collects large items, think it's £20 for 3 items, plus you can take them to the recycling centre or there are a few charities that will collect things for free or a small donation.
Councils don't make it easy for you to dispose of rubbish these days, my local council requires you to make an appointment 4 days in advance and even then are very picky about what they will accept. My neighbour took an old TV to the tip last week, but refused entry as he was in a small van which is the same size as a car. He had to bring the TV home make another appointment put it in his car and went back, no problem this time. But honestly how many others would having just after being refused entry taken the TV and dumped it at the side of the road , quite a few I would imagine.
our council charges per item but it’s a very slow expensive service as a friend tried to book them but it was a month or more. The council should collect and charge a small amount this might stop their expensive clean up operations clearing up fly tipping.
