List of Essential Shops Open in Lockdown
Other
I've put together this to help our members on what is open during lockdown - add a comment for any other businesses you know that are still open.
kayleigh124 I don't think going to a McDonald's for a sit down meal will be accepted as a justifiable reason for leaving home during the full lockdown. Although apparently getting a take away will (it's a well known fact that a side effect of Covid19 is; it deprives people, not necessarily infected, of the ability to cook or prepare their own food)
Thought I'd better explain; the last bit was a bit sarcastic, can't be too careful some people will believe anything.
kayleigh124 McDonald’s is definitely not open for a sit down. Only take away/drive thru
conker89 B&Q sell wood so my pet woodworm won't starve, my pet caterpillar didn't show much appreciation for the garden centres staying open for his pet food - he grew wings and flew away.
Getsome The supermarkets don't sell live crickets, locusts and worms for my pets food
thank you, i need someone to update a list of work places staying open as its not very straight forward
Thanks very much for this list. You're so thoughtful and the list is the most helpful thing.
With these still open is it really a lockdown no only the big supermarkets should be open and times put into age brackets who can shop.
Got to disagree regarding only big supermarkets staying open Ann, many people, especially those without transport, rely on the smaller ones for essentials.
I agree with different times for different age groups though, but would go a bit further and say that there should only be perhaps one hour a day when those who cannot, or will not, wear face coverings are allowed into the store, and the stores being fined very heavily if they permit them to enter the store.
davidstockport if they needed to do drastic rules then maybe this will be only way. Because people get bored and or guess what I need a tin of bens let’s pop to bm but while am there I will get a new lamp and bed cover. Maybe do a bit of barcode scanning for reduced items
davidstockport then there would be big law suits on the government as not everyone can wear a mask and should not Be penalised due to this it’s the ones who think it’s ok to get up ya back side who should be banned from all shops these are the ones who makes it unsafe for everyone
woodcockjane If those who couldn't wear a mask, were given a time slot, as I suggested. Then they could not have any gripe about being refused service. I didn't hear anyone complain when NHS workers were given slots when other people wouldn't be served.
I did elsewhere also suggest that those who couldn't wear a mask for health reasons, should be helped with provision of their shopping without entering the store, as for those who just refuse to wear a mask (I saw one Covidiot on this forum saying masks were "censorship")... well I daren't say here what I think should happen to them.
Furthermore there could be no lawsuits as stores are free to refuse service to whomever they choose. (unless blatantly racist) I did see one shop selling non-essentials with a notice on the door saying "If you're not wearing face covering - don't come in". I was wearing a mask so gave them some custom.
I need to be able to get my pets food and I can't get that from the supermarket
Never thought of garden centres as being essential. It is nice to have lots of lovely plants in your garden, but is it really essential?
Gardening is good for our mental health, besides which it might be useful this year to plant a few veg . I certainly start mine before March .
Why are Off Licences open? They are not essential, yet the one in Westmoreland Road, Bromley is open, as was the coffee shop and several lads were sitting down inside...
People shouldn't be able to sit down in a coffee shop. However off licenses are open as they were in the last lockdown as some sell food and other supplies. But also the thinking is for alcohol addiction as if these were closed it could overwhelm the NHS with those dependant on it,
