Do You Live with Long Term Health Problems?

Ask a Question

Do you suffer from long term health problems and feel forgotten about because of covid 19?

Ive lived with numerous health issues for over a decade and half and seen people from physio to loads and loads of different consultants . I ask this as the head of the NHS is complaining that people are so stressed with trying to get any appointment with there doctors surgeries they just go straight to the minor injuries and a&e to get help with there problems clogging up the system even more . I can totally see there point as my brother in laws daughter is a nurse at a&e and they are utterly at witts end with people turning up with headaches and 1 person at her hospital turned up as they had a telephone consultation with the doctors and they said they had you need to go to a&e and when they got there they saw the nurse and the nurse said your doctor has sent you here because you have a spot .

Do u feel forgotten about or what would you do to improve the situation for people with chronic health problems.

It's a tough one.

I've rang the NHS Wales helpline a few times before and after lockdown and they told me every time to go to either my GP or A&E.

I had to go to A&E once because I had a nose bleed on and off for 3 days. A doctor didn't see me and the only 'nurse' couldn't work out how to take my blood pressure. Must have been new, I suppose. Ended up being given a prescription for antibiotic nose cream 🙄 Bled for another couple of days before seeing my GP who took me off the aspirin I was taking.

The NHS is in a shocking state where the attitude of most of the ward staff is 'Well it's not my job, so I'm not doing it' (in my experience, anyway).

Had MrsChimp referred to hospital for scans due to some severe abdominal pains, but we're not holding our breath.

We have had a few problems getting gp and hospital appointments but we managed in the end. I think you have to be assertive and not give up. On the other hand, my granddaughter was very ill and was eventually diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. We couldn’t fault her care.

If endometriosis is considered a long term health problem yes. Difficult to cure even with surgery. The way to manage it is eating healthy and avoid inflammatory foods.

My eye hospital appointments continued from the start of Covid but I was very hesitant about going but my husband convinced me to attend. The hospital has been extremely careful giving us proper medical face masks etc. I can’t fault the NHS.

Yes I’m chronically ill and physically disabled and clinically medically vulnerable and on controlled painkillers ( lots) and walk with a crutch and can’t get rid of pain . Popping all these pills and my eyesight poor but my respiratory issues are very serious also and am losing weight but I’ve gone and registered with my old Drs as heamoglonim is only 77 and has only gone up 7 in 3 months and I’m very concerned for my 2 year left on lungs working as right gone and already read last rites in intensive care ( 24 hrs left to live bc clinically
