Liverpool Stripped of Unesco World Heritage Status

In the News

What a shame this has happened , after years of struggling to gain status with poverty , crime and drugs being what the city was more renowned for they then achieved heritage status , only for it to now be removed because of greedy developers , this will be a big blow to liverpool pride

According to what I heard on the Radio , Liverpool have been given advice about this for the past few years by Unesco and were warned about potential lose of Heritage status if they continued over developing the area. To be granted such status is a great privilege but it comes with restrictions and rules, Liverpool clearly didn't think they applied to them , so really they only have themselves to blame

Yes i agree M, but when you say liverpool it is the council and developers that are to blame, not the people unfortunately

telmel Of course isn't it always the very people that are voted in, to look after the interests of the people who mess things up.

Cities need to evolve. I doubt there were many visitors that went to Liverpool simply because it had heritage status. Ringo is a much bigger draw than the Liver Building...

UNESCO have also given Venice a warning over its future plans -
