'Local Events'

Ask a Question

Today I've had a Freebie for tickets to the Free Eat and Drink Christmas Festival at Olympia London removed for being a 'local event'.

This isn't a jumble sale at a local church, but a very large annual event that attracts many thousands of people from around the country. Greater London also has a population of over 8 million people, with many more coming in each day for work or to visit, so there is going to be interest.

The Eat and Drink Festival run other events in different parts of the country during the year, giving many more people the opportunity to attend. There are many other big events going on around the country each year that people will travel for, such as car shows, food & drink festivals, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, MCM Comic Con, etc.

Given that people are willing to travel for large events. Free tickets for them should be allowed in Freebies?

Hey ACR 🙂

Please do drop us a message using the contact form in the future if you have any questions about moderation decisions (it just means we can answer them in a fairer, more consistent way rather than when I stumble across them in chat 😃)

But as I'm here - you're quite right! It looks like this was a misinterpretation of the (I guess quite subjective) rule we have about no local events. As you point out - this is to prevent tiny local events and not large scale events.

I've put the post back live again on LD - thanks for sharing! 👍
