Where can I get a good local library?

We go to our local library every Friday morning for my sons bookbug class and afterwards we look at the books and there are lots of other mums that take books out after class too. Our local library is well used as it is next to the high school and used by the pupils all the time and there are lots of different activities during the week.

Unfortunately yes libraries are drying out but yes there are still people who loves reading hard copies instead of reading on screens.

Yes, I did use mine but I will not be able to when I move. It'll cost me £4 to go by bus into the library in town to collect a book, then another £4 to go back to return it. It will work out cheaper to buy the books second hand and have these send direct to my house. I think they are dying out but by closing most of them where I live it means many people do not have a local library more. Also where I live your library card is only valid for a few years then you have to go into a branch to update your details. If you have moved you have to have proof of address with 2 different documents. Most people can't be bothered with the fuss of all that.

Things evolve and although many years ago I frequented libraries, I feel that nowadays the cost (to council tax payers who don't use them or need them - because of the internet) far outweighs the need for them.

Libraries should adapt and evolve. They could be used for reading clubs for old and young alike. The elderly could spend time there in groups, especially in winter to keep warm. Rooms could be used for guest speakers to teach and pass on knowledge. Also children in care and parents always need somewhere to meet that is safe and has activities. Libraries could be so much more than just books, whilst still being the most important aspect.

Ive been a couple of times to print something if weve had no ink in our printer. The computers are ancient and are so slow

I haven’t been to our local library for a couple of years. With home internet there’s no need to research but I do use their magazine download facilities.

I don’t normally, but the other day it was raining quite heavily, so I popped into the library and it was actually a nice place to hide. They’d refurbished the place so it looks better than I remembered

Personally I think they should rethink libraries now we have the internet, they could deliver the same service electronically with much reduced costs. There should be a service like kindle unlimited that is free to use for uk people. They can read the book online for lets say 4 weeks and then the book disappear from their online library and cannot be taken out again for a while. You only get 4 books at a time to read etc. You can book a time online to read a reference book and get a couple hours to do so. So its a little inconvenient and only books are available that they have physical copies of, i.e. if a local library only has 8 copies of a book then only 8 copies can be electronically loaned out for that area.
