Ask a Question
Does anyone have any ideas for fun, indoor activities to do with my three year old son. I’m trying to find ways to keep him entertained whilst being indoors during lockdown. Thank you

Making hand prints with paint if you've got some! Have a look on pinterest for arts and crafts ideas using things you've got at home
Pretending the sofa is a bus/plane/rocket. Making little pizzas using half a bread roll as a base. Colouring or painting pictures. Large chalks on the house or path. Outdoor ride on toys and bike. Making a postbox from a cardboard box.
Check out the five minute mum blog for lots of educational ideas too. There's lots with letters and counting.

Hi, I also have a 3 year old and as you know they have an attention span of Dory from Finding Nemo.
He is normally at nursery 5 mornings a week but seems oblivious to any real change to his routine. I have been trying to keep some kind of a routine which is tough with having older siblings too. But on a morning I tend to set the older ones away with school work and try my best to do activities similar to those he would do at nursery.
I have to admit that the BBC Bitesize sessions etc are great and there is something for everyone.
Then after lunch the whole gang do activities together as best we can. We are lucky enough to have a garden and with the weather being kind(until today) they have been creating a veg plot. My littlest is keen to dig and sow seeds, although he has to be guided a little, lol. We have made little labels with drawings of the plants produce, which i have laminated and put on the pots etc. Little one now knows what is on the ground on each and happily checks each day of any progress. He's eager to water etc too!! Even if you don't have an outdoor space , window sills are still a good place for smaller things. One thing we have always done(and this is a thing I did when I was little) is make little cress or mustard haired people! We use empty egg shells and draw little faces on them, with a little damp cotton wool with the seeds sprinkled on top. They grow within a week and so are good for low attention.
Like other people have said, art and crafts are great and are a staple in our house anyway and a project that takes a few days to complete is good. Something that you can dip in and out of. Again it's a little bit of my childhood, but we have made paper mache piggy banks and masks using balloons covered in paper mache with egg box feet and snouts. But there are lots of ideas out there.
One thing I must add is, don't beat yourself up if you resort to tablets or tv. There are lots of great things to do on them anyway. I know mine loves the Cbeebies apps. Whatever you do , you are doing your best!! Its a tough time and very odd! I hope that you find some ideas and most of all have fun together!! x
Rach2503 thank you! I’ve been trying out the BBC bite size sessions and he loves them! Thank you for telling me about this because I didn’t know about this before. Thank you for all your other great ideas! I’m going to try them out this week. I hope you are doing well and keeping safe. Thank you xx
sarahc1427 oh, no problem at all. Its so hard at the moment to occupy the kids and any help is always welcomed! Good old BBC have stepped up to the mark on this occasion I think with their education aids! plus they have some great podcasts that I have been listening to myself!!
Rach2503 it really is! Just little things like going to the playgroup we miss. So this is coming in really handy! X
sarahc1427 yes the social interaction is a big miss for us too! My elder two are not so bad although they miss their friends. But its so hard to explain to a 3 yr old why he cant go to the park or nursery! He was oblivious for a few weeks I think but suddenly he has noticed we are all here and he is not going to see his peers. There is a fab download on ''nosey crow'' that is a little story by Axel Scheffler explaining the germ to little ones. I'm still not convinced he understands though!!
sarahc1427 there is a fab book you can download called doctor dotty. I read it to my 3 year old so much she tells people walking past your not listening to Doctor dotty
