A London Underground train driver on the Jubilee Line has tested positive for coronavirus, Transport for London (TfL) has said.
The driver, based at the North Greenwich depot, had recently returned from a holiday in Vietnam.
It comes as the mayor of London cancelled the upcoming St Patrick's Day celebrations because of the outbreak.
Buckingham Palace has also announced The Queen has cancelled a planned visit to the borough of Camden on 26 March.
A spokesman for the Queen, who turns 94 in April, said: "As a sensible precaution and for practical reasons in the current circumstances, changes are being made to The Queen's diary commitments in the coming weeks.
"Audiences will continue as usual. Other events will be reviewed on an ongoing basis in line with the appropriate advice."
Sadiq Khan said he had been left with no choice but to call off the annual St Patrick's Day parade, which had been due to take place in Trafalgar Square on Sunday.
Official St Patrick's Day events have been held in London since 2002 and attract more than 50,000 people.
Birmingham's St Patrick's Day parade, which claims to be the third biggest in the world and attracts crowds of up to 100,000, has also been cancelled.
It's sad but I think media is creating too much panic.
Most people survive this virus which is the positive sign but media is only highlighting the worse part.
Exactly! I dont think it helps or achieves anything to be broadcasting names of people who contract it. Baffling!
Glitterandgold In my opinion broadcasting the names of people who have contracted it achieves a lot, it lets those who might have been in close contact know that they need to get checked out, and if positive, then stops them passing it on. There is nothing "shameful" in having contracted it.
davidstockport agree i Would wont people to know if I had it so if they had been near me in last week to keep eye but they might show no signs of the virus but carry it on to someone else
davidstockport There's a frenzy & hysteria going on at the moment tho that is not helpful. If this gets as large as they predict. (Still a IF) then resources are being drained now, far too soon due to the panic being created. The vast majority of people survive this & don't even need hospitalised. Most people will not even need to get checked out if infected. The advice now is just to isolate & keep hydrated. As you do with flu! Only contact health authorities if symptoms become severe. I'm not saying we shouldn't be concerned (btw I'd fall into the at risk) but theres a mass freak out happening. The media should have a responsibility to keep people calm & not bombard us all with figures & names that are only going to cause more & more panic. We need facts yes, but these facts are delivered in a scare mongering fashion. It's just common sense to alert anyone who'd be at risk if your infected with a nasty bug. Also just to be clear I don't think theres any 'shame' in anybody having contracted it!
Glitterandgold If some are scared into taking things more seriously and take reasonable precautions because they're told the truth by the media then the media are doing a very good job, The rate of mortality for anyone contracting it is at least ten times that of flu and could be over thirty times as great, according to the ready available statistics, And from what I see the number of those contracting it is also much higher than that of influenza.
davidstockport The media could tell the truth without the scare mongering tactics tho. It just creates mayhem otherwise, as we are seeing.
Glitterandgold I haven't seen anything in the media that can't be backed up with actual evidence. Can't get closer to the truth than that.
The truth can sometimes be frightening I know. . . if it does cause mayhem, that's hardly the fault of the media.
Less than an hour ago I heard Donald Trump on the radio, I actually heard fear in his voice - he, until very recently, was very complacent, but I'm wondering if that complacency is now worrying him in view of his exposure to many who've tested positively. It's good to see that The Queen, who is about 21 years older than the elderly Trumpy, is hopefully being protected by changes to her diary.
The London Marathon has also been postponed until October this year. I've heard they're thinking of postponing Easter until Christmas, don't worry it's just a rumour. Some people ask how rumours start. . . it's simple; I tell someone something and then they tell someone else

Glitterandgold I was reading earlier today that a Vaccine is almost ready for testing on humans, but it will, even if approved, be June next year before there's any chance of it being used generally.
(I know a vaccine isn't a cure but - it's better than nothing).

davidstockport Ah! I imagine the OP meant this vaccine then, rather than a cure. Prevention is better than a cure but there is no known cure for any flu.
Glitterandgold I'm reasonably certain you're correct, vaccines are preventitive, the only "cure" is time as the body hopefully develops anti-bodies, if it doesn't well. . . fear the worst.
Coronavirus: UK deaths double in 24 hours
Ten more people in the UK have died in the last 24 hours after testing positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths to 21.
And if the doubling up continues God forbid! (if there is a God) then in a week. It would be 2,688 and a week later over 344 thousand. Then two days later (only sixteen days from now) well over a million. I won't carry on in case I frighten anybody. But I've just said enough, hopefully, to reduce complacency, Even Donald Trump has suddenly realised he was wrong.
I’m sure he’s not the only affected, but he’s the only one that’s been tested. Public transport has been so empty these days, it’s actually been a dream to travel through London - trains are running on time, there are always seats, and most of the people I encounter as I travel are generally positive people who are just getting on with their lives
