Long Covid

Ask a Question

I don’t doubt how debilitating it must be to have had covid or still be suffering from long covid.

Has anyone experienced long covid? If so, how long have you had it? Are you beginning to feel better yet?

Yes sadly I have it. I'm hoping when I get my second vaccine I will improve. I've had a sore throat and congestion for about a year and have periods of breathlessness when my own immune system damages my lungs etc and I take weeks to recover. I've had breathlessness about 5 or 6 times now and I think it takes 2-6 weeks to recover. It's been a rubbish year to say the least. When I had the first vaccine which is meant to start kicking in after about 3 weeks I had a huge immune response and was left with breathlessness again. Worst illness I've ever had and the feeling of breathlessness is horrific. Just walking to the toilet can make me out of breath. I'm just recovering from it now and have slightly improved over the last couple days but I'm a long way from back to normal.

My body has always I think over-reacted to infection when it can't generate the correct anti-bodies and mine just can't seem to do that for covid 19 but I'm hopeful maybe a month after the second vaccine my body will basically not have to respond like that to covid again. I'm actively losing weight and hope to return to cycling soon to expand my lung capacity but its very difficult when long covid keeps damaging my health.

BonzoBanana B, i am sorry to hear you have long covid, as Leeshas dad has , i must have missed this post last year

I hope you are both recovering from the affects and are ok ?

I was going to post an article i found in the news today about this tonight , but realised it might be rejected as HappyTravels has already posted similar

But i feel so strongly about it that i am going to post what i composed , i hope H doesn't mind me piggybacking on his post, it is shocking the government is not doing more to help

If anyone reads my posts you know i try to post feel good factor chats , some humerous and some relevant to what is happening around us, nothing ever too serious

But i think the article i read today is one of the most worrying to date , in fact there are two links to different articles about the same subject on different dates , showing this is a subject that seems to have been swept under the carpet and isn't going away

I feel so much for the people in the articles , some that were fit and athletic and are now struggling to walk or breathe

We know about high profile cases like Kate Garraways husband Derek , which is probably one of the worst

I just didn't realise there were so many other people that have been affected so much in the same way

Something more needs to be done about this, not just hearing doctors saying it's something we need to put up with and accept !!

My dad (in his early 50s) is still not 100% 3 months after having covid. Still weak and very tired. His oxygen levels took a long time to get back to the low end of normal so they said it would likely be a longer recovery.

My husband and I got covid (although tested) negative but in bed for 3 weeks last December thinking we were never going to see daylight again..never had any vaccine jabs for covid..but all the symptoms were there..all year felt absolutely tired e.t.c..recently tested positive for both of us.different symptoms but really poorly again..it isn't something we should have professionals saying it's the normal thing now..I don't think they would feel the same watching their nearest and dearest being incredibly poorly

I'm not sure whether me and MrsChimp have had Covid at all. The chances are that we have, but we haven't had symptoms. Lucky either way, I suppose.

Long covid must be a right bunner and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, well most people anyway.

I met a nurse recently and she told me she’s been signed off for over six months due to long Covid. She’s says she still can’t cope working full time.
