Looking for Internet Provider.

Who is doing the best deals for internet and phone at the moment? I'm looking for internet for when we move soon but would prefer feedback on who is best first.
Anything BT related which includes plus net, talk talk, Sky etc.. I avoid as you can't really get top speeds unless your area has been dug up and you got Fiber. Virgin Media (If available in your area) is best for speed but it is on the pricey side. Virgin are known for the RPI price increases
I don't understand why people pay line rental to have a landline.. seriously who uses one when everything is mobile? Landline = Nuisance calls
An option that I find much better is to to go for unlimited data sim card from three for £20 a month (http://www.three.co.uk/Store/SIM/Plans_for_phones) and buy a sim wifi box from amazon (approx £50-150 depending on spec you go for). Pop sim card in your new wifi and away you go..
Going camping or away with the kids? take the router with you plug it in everyone connected on the go.. or take the sim out of your wifi box and pop into your phone and let everyone connect to you. Speed with three on 4g will be somewhere in between BT & Virgin. Cheek rootmetrics for coverage.
Hope this helps
Although many don't need a landline - there are many who do. People who have friends or family who have to pay prohibitive prices to call mobiles won't do so. I prefer to deal with companies who have an available landline number - even though I can phone either for the same price.
Having a landline (which is usually included in price) is almost essential and cheaper for home broadband (where data for video streaming services is usually unlimited).
I personally use a mobile for outgoing calls and landline for incoming calls. This practice could save many people who pay their phone provider for "anytime calls" (£120 a year with TalkTalk) at least £90 a year - if they have the same mobile phone service as I use. I could with my current usage be saving OVER £100 a year.
I do know that the use of landline usage has fallen by over 50 percent in recent years but I still think that, for some time to come, a landline phone will be necessary for many people.
davidstockport They normally offer a great deal with landline and broadband for the first year, the 2nd year they will add the line rental charge irrespective what discount if any they give you. Virgin I believe charge £15 per month for line rental each month irrespective if you use or don't use the landline. For £15 a month you can get unlimited minutes with a mobile phone contract to call local & national landlines, mobiles, 0800, 0345 no. etc..
Doesn't make sense in my mind to pay a separate charge for landline and your mobile but each to there own
Going for broadband reliant on telephone line from my experience is a way for them to make more money or you get slow broadband speeds
Yahya I agree it's each to their own - I actually prefer a no contract pay as you go mobile phone service costing 1p a minute. Which in my case (and many others) would cost a maximum of £30.42 a year. That allows me an average of over eight minutes a day outgoing of what would be chargeable calls - which in my case is more than sufficient. My friends and family usually phone me on my landline - which is still there for emergencies - or calling freephone numbers.
I used to use plusnet and they were awful as were their customer service. I now use vodaphone. They so far have been great.
I was considering Vodaphone as my next provider - I noticed they're only going to use UK based call centres and have very competitive prices.
davidstockport they’ve really been excellent for me. It was one of the cheapest and the customer service is excellent. I live out in the sticks and have had problems in the past but not since switching to vodaphone
nipperjwb now this is what I wanted to hear lol. I live put in the sticks so knowing someone has good coverage is a bonus.
One to AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE is TalkTalk - they will rope you in (tying you into a contract) by offering you what appears a good deal, then start charging for things that you were promised as part of your deal mid-contract . (not defamatory as every every word can be proved - so many complaints received that they're taking over a month to even try to answer them).
One ISP who I would be considering is NOW TV who are newish to the broadband market, but who I've used for video streaming services (no contract) with absolute satisfaction. A recent offer by NOW TV was £18 a month for fast broadband, line rental and anytime calls. A similar package with TalkTalk would have cost me £35 but included some things they could start charging extra for mid-contract. (they started charging for anonymous caller reject quite recently).
A suggestion is that: which ever ISP you choose try to ensure that their call centres are in this country (that's where your phone line is).
Have just recently signed up to plusnet have a 12 month contract. And honestly that was biggest mistake. So slow and kicks you off at times. Would jot recommend
It might make it easier if we all mentioned those we wouldn't recommend. It appears from TrustPilot that Plusnet have even worse reviews than TalkTalk - I'd never have thought that even possible ,https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.plus.net
I'd suggest that anyone thinking of getting a new ISP checks reviews before they do.
