Magazines Closing with Immediate Effect
Other
Just had emails from these two magazines so just in-case there are any outstanding competitions out there.
Healthy Diet - In light of the unprecedented COVID-19 situation we have had to make some immediate and substantial changes to our business in order to survive the impact of the virus.
Unfortunately, it is with sadness that we have to announce that we are closing Healthy Diet magazine with immediate effect.
Simply Vegan - In light of the unprecedented COVID-19 situation we have had to make some immediate and substantial changes to our business in order to survive the impact of the virus.
Unfortunately, it is with sadness that we have to announce that we are closing Simply Vegan magazine with immediate effect. The final issue is the May issue on sale on 1st April.
Most magazines (and newspapers) have been struggling for years and this outbreak is only going to make things worse. The problem is compounded online as advertisers are using technology to block ads appearing next to articles that mention COVID-19, which is leading to a further loss in revenue - https://www.theguardian.com/media/2020/apr/01/newspapers-to-lose-50m-in-online-ads-as-firms-use-coronavirus-blacklist
I had the email about the Simply vegan magazine closing, seems that the companies that were already under strain are finding things even tougher now.
"The final issue is the May issue on sale on 1st April"
Can't help but think that if they'd also made the June, July and August editions available they might have survived the crisis.
I will assume the April edition was on sale on the first of March. Why didn't they use the date of the month the magazines were on sale?
Two more closing for a temporary period Baking Heaven and Gluten-Free Heaven for three months.
On a positive note, I know somebody who has subscribed to their favourite magazine as a direct result of not being able to buy it in person. They are a pensioner though so maybe younger generations are just not buying magazines anyway. I wonder why these small publications like Simply Vegan don't try out an online version that you pay to view. Some newspapers are doing that.
