Making the Most of Christmas This Year

Ask a Question

Does anyone have any ideas for Christmas this year?

Usually see family, but starting to become real that it’s unlikely to happen. Can anyone recommend any ideas, or fun things to do to help us feel festive!

Sorry to hear that you probably won't be able to see family at Christmas this year. You're so right to want to make the best of the festive season despite the pandemic situation. How about putting up MORE decorations than usual? Ceramic painting a plain white set of crockery so that you have a special Christmas set? Gift-wrapping things a few at a time to spread out the fun? Making Christmas decorations or an Advent calendar with old Christmas cards? Getting excited about it like we all did when we were kids? Toasting marshmallows over a fire or over a disposable BBQ? Looking up Christmas foods from different countries so that if its difficult to get turkey, you have some options? Or perhaps instead of having Christmassy foods like mince pies that might be difficult to get, having ALL your favourite regular foods instead?

Facetime/call family, do a virtual family quiz, watch Christmas movies or your favourite movies with Christmas or your favourite foods and snacks 🙂

Another idea: Let go of what Christmas has been for you up to now and do something completely different. If it's hard to get turkey, get something *completely* different. If you can't see family, do something *totally* different that you would normally never consider. Maybe you could spend the money you would normally spend on Christmas food on having fun things to do delivered to your house. Or renovating your house. In the alternative, what about pretending that you're in a top fancy hotel for a week and spending the Christmas budget on things like champagne, fluffy robe, nail polish or false nails, foot rub ... Not gonna be as good as seeing family but if you can't do what you'd usually do, it might be easier to do something new than try to imitate something old. Anyone else any thoughts?

Why not pare it back to bare bones and celebrate it for what it is - the Birth of Christ, go to Church and then have a nice meal. Santa Clause is getting demanding and greedy telling children that they need all these new toys etc. I think he owns the toy companies.
