Man Gets £5000 in Compensation after Cutting Himself While Shaving

In the News

' First cut is the deepest ' as Rod Stewart sang or in this case first and second

The man , nick from London, no it isn't a joke , that was his name , had just bought a pack of supermarket own brand razor blades and decided to shave

After lavering up he proceeded to shave both sides of his face but received cuts to his cheeks

When he checked the blade he noticed it had come away from the housing

The cuts were that bad it took him 20 minutes or so to stop the bleeding

So he took photos and approached a claims company and put in a claim against Wilkinson Sword, the manufacturer

They sent the razor for tests and surprisingly got a reply of an offer of £5,000 compensation within 4 weeks , extremely fast

He did dramatise things claiming nightmares and flashbacks etc , but that is normal practice

Maybe he should stick to Gillette or another brand to avoid another close shave

Unusual case but to be honest if i cut myself badly using a manual razor, it would put me off using one again. Some people do get funny at the sight of blood.

jms19 I use disposables J and have cut myself a few times over the years but just put it down to rushing , i usually just throw it away anyway and use a new one if it happens , i never thought about suing the company

Omg that's ridiculous to get that much compensation for a couple of nicks. Probably wasn't paying attention

Jerseydrew I suppose it all depends if Wilkinson found a defect or not J, the fact they paid out so fast points to a defect in this case

That’s the usual way to get compensation - exaggerate the injuries and they’ll pay to get you off their backs

It does seem as if his claim was warranted this time as the razor appears to have been faulty. I am sure the company thought it was worth £500 to limit any bad publicity.
