Max and Keira's Law - Automatic Organ Donation from Today
In the News
Just a heads up that organ donation will now be automatic in England unless people opt out, in new laws which come into effect today

This is a positive move and will help the nhs greatly. However, I appreciate there are circumstances where people do not wish to be a donor, so they will now need to opt out
Great news !!! This will help so many people but please please talk to relatives and family about it so there are no arguments.
Think my liver would be useless after this lock down !!!
I've always carried a donor card (not sure they exist) and had it noted on my driving licence. I actually think it's a good thing.
This is fantastic news this should have been done a long time ago and agreed it will save so many lives love this thanks for sharing
I'm not sure about this one.
They keep you alive and harvest different organs at different times, and don't give an anaesthetic.
I'd be worried that I'd feel all the pain while they're taking my bits one by one while keeping me alive on life support.
it has taken a long time to get this through, and I never thought it would actually materialise in my life time, but I am glad it has
Me too. It will hopefully help save lives. I just hope organs don’t get wasted just because they can easily be harvested from now on
I think this is such a positive thing and will save and improve so many lives. It should be a comfort to loved ones to know they have helped someone else.
I don't actually agree with this. I never want any part of anyone else inside me and therefore don't feel that anyone else should be automatically entitled to receive my bits and pieces. I am well aware that I may die at some point by not getting someones 'bits' but that doesn't bother me as I am a fatalist, I will die, we all will. I have enough things wrong with me now to know that should I survive my life would be extremely painful and undignified and there is no way I am ever going into a care home - for me that would be worse than death.
I completely understand how you feel. You are not alone. So make sure you opt out, otherwise they will carve you up
hspexy It is good to know that I am not alone on this and rest assured that I already have and have their confirmation of that in writing!
