Mbe/obe Awards

On jeremy vine they were discussing if the obe/mbe thing should be scrapped. They were on about some of the celebs. One of tge panel has it snd can't see why she should as she said she's just a hack. Just out of interest what you think?

I have a friend who has an OBE and he says it's an acronym for Other Bloke's Efforts or Old Boiled Egg. Seriously though he is a humble man who repeatedly risked life and limb to save and support others and still does.My father(RIP) knew a man who championed disability rights long before it became popular to do so.He got one and very much deserved it as well. I do though draw the line at celebrities getting a gong for acting and singing and doing a well paid job that they enjoy doing anyway.

Kevin sinfield was overlooked yet again for a knighthood, disgraceful, yet Gareth Southgate & others got one for absolutely Nothing, contributions to football, don't make me laugh, what about this guy running 7 ultra marathons in 7 days recently to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease & everything he did for rob burrows and his family

PhilipMarc absolutely ridiculous he's knighted, he's been a complete disaster for London, what is more ironic is, he's excepted the honour, this from a rat that has done everything to decolonise’ London, renaming streets, taking statue's down lol what a joker

I don't agree with the system. Mainly privileged people receiving more privilege. There should be a distinct difference between celebs and politicians getting gongs and those who do good for community or country.

Quiz shows give away thousands upon thousands so why not a weekly/monthly programme showcasing these good people and they receive cash or holiday or donation to their cause. The celebs and co can do one, no recognition needed.

This may also inspire and encourage others to give more of themselves to helping others.

The British honours system should be scrapped or at least overseen by a Nobel Prize style committee. Which is free from government interference or suggestions. Too many undeserving wealthy and influential government cronies are being recognised.

Some should get and some shouldn't. I agree with joe public getting rewarded for all the effort and hard work they've voluntarily put into supporting/improving their community but not the local government employee/police commissionaire etc for 'services to whatever.' It was their job to provide these services!

lilyflower I agree, especially your last sentence as many get rewarded for failure or not so good service.

Exactly. It's good some celebrities get it in order to get us talking about but at the same time it's utterly ridiculous

I’m pleased to hear when unknown people get some acknowledgment for their services to the community not paid sportsmen and celebrities.
