How Did You Meet Your Partner?

Other

Was it love at first site? Im single but dating and it's so hard to meet guys, my job was predominately female, and online dating isn't easy.

We meet the first day of teacher training and have been together ever since. I liked him the moment he walked into the room and I made sure he knew it. We went on our first date and that was it, engaged 14 months later. This year we will have been together for 8 years and married for 5 years. He can be a pain in the backside at times but I wouldn't be without him, he is a fantastic husband and a brilliant father.

Still haven't gotten used that nowadays people call the husband/wife as "partner." To me, a partner is someone I'd work with.

I used partner as not everyone is married and because there are gay and straight relationships

I don't have a partner but you asked so here is my story:

1967 emigrated to Oz with three sisters and parents. Full forward a couple of years and we return to Blighty leaving behind my first boyfriend, I am 15 and heartbroken. But it mended pretty quickly when I got in with a crowd of teens on the 6 week voyage home. We all exchanged addresses and eventually me and just one guy were still in touch. Full forward again and I am at work when dad phoned and told me to come straight home after as I have a visitor. And there he is, now a handsome sailor in full uniform sitting having tea with mum and dad. We went out for the evening so not quite An Officer and A Gentleman, (I didn't get carried off to the sound of cheering) but we spent all our leave together and occasional weekends after I joined the WRNS too.

End of story......we marry in 1971, have two boys and divorce in 1986. But hey ho, that's longer than a lot of marriages last.

KirstyW ha ha, loads more to the story. I was the only teen with a battery operated portable record player. We were all on top deck when my favourite Gary Puckett single was caught by the wind, landed on a lifeboat and my hero climbed over to get it! Strictly forbidden of course. He was a bit of an action man as he trained and became a ship's diver and post navy he became a diver for an oil company working up the North sea and in Nigeria.

We met through his cousin/ my friend. I was 15 he was 19. We became young parents. Fast forward 22 years our sons are now teenagers themselves & we've raised two well balanced lovely young men, own our home & 2 businesses. Not bad for teenage parents eh! It's not always been easy & we have had some tough / rocky times but have made it work. We are a good team. He supported me during the loss of my parents & so much more. I love him dearly. Him & my boys are my world!

I met my "female friend" through the dating website Pocado after many years of nightclubbing, raves, ibiza clubbing and have tried everything from speed dating at Tiger Tiger to internet dating , even met someone through hotmail - it got to a point where i was doing 2 dates a week just for fun - gets you out of the house and meeting new people more than anything else but its the modern way to go and it doesnt have the "saddo" moniker anymore but in the end after hundreds of dates and relationships I firmly believe that men and women were never meant to be coupled/married etc no relationships really last that long these days - every single one of my friends is in an unhappy marriage or crazy relationship and seeing young folks on tv in things like that crass Love Island and all those so called dating shows where noone ever meets again after the first date well.... make your own mind up!

I met mine on a night out for my mutual friends birthday 🀣 A few of us got on the train at a later stop and everyone was drinking (i dont like breaking rules so i had poured my drink into a 7up can - i also dont like people speaking to me or drawing attention to me) and she shouts at me OMG that better not be 7up! I just blanked her 🀣 During the night some boy come up to me and asked β€˜what colour is your tongue? So obiously i poked it out and then he full on kissed me, so i slapped him (he was not the boy you wanted to kiss like) 😯 She seen and started shouting that i kissed this boy so i like omg how do i shut her up πŸ™ˆ so i go β€˜what colour is your tongue? πŸ™Š and done the same to her. Who is she going to tell now she’s kissed me aswell 🀣 Towards the end of the night our mutual friend asks can this girl stay over mine aswell because she has forgotten her key! So i was like yeah ok. Get home and my friend goes straight to bed because she has work early - me and the girl stay up and end up kissing 😘 It was a bit complicated at first because neither of us were out as gay, but we cane out together and we now have 2 kids and been together 10 years and married 5 years this year. She told me after a few years that she didnt really forget her key she just wanted to come home with me 🀣🀣🀣 Im also in the process of being diagnosed with autism which is why i sound so strange with social situations πŸ™Š

After my divorce, I spent 7 years on my own with my 3 young children. Then one horrible, rainy night a canvasser knocked on the door to try to get people to sign up to get their milk delivered. He was drenched and I felt so sorry for him I signed up. Along came the milkman and we just used to chat when he called to collect the money every week. I was a struggling single mum and didn't always have the money, he found it hilarious that basically I opened the door and said I'm sorry I haven't got the money this week. Apparently he had a lot of non paying customers but they always refused to answer the door. Anyway the rest is history, we went on a date, he moved in the next day, it wasn't agreed, he just never went home again and after 5 days he asked me to marry him. That was 20 years ago and he is still my everything. He brought my 3 children up with me as if they were his own. In fact my ex husband thanked him for everything he did for the children and really liked him.

That is a good story and probably the most natural way to meet someone so no wonder it has lasted!

You are lucky.

There is an old Chinese story that man and woman were once part of a whole and God split them apart and threw them to the four winds/continents and its only 1 in a million now that ever meets their other half now so well done lucky lady lol

I do like that story but then I am a bit of an old romantic myself!

garygemmell aw thank you, yes I am very lucky. He most certainly hasn't had an easy ride, lol. I love that Chinese story. The bit of mine I didn't mention was that he was only 21 when we got together against my 35 which caused some issues with family members. But at 21 he took on 3 children aged 8, 9 and 10 and was/is a wonderful father and we now have a beautiful 6 year old granddaughter who adores him. So yes a very special man indeed β™₯️

KirstyW never lose faith. I always used to say to my mum, well I'll never meet anyone because I never go out anywhere and who wants to take on a woman with 3 kids. Ad to that I had a serious distrust of men. She used to say just wait when the times right it will happen (drove me mad), then low and behold he turns up on my doorstep πŸ˜‚ I was worried about my children as I had never even had a boyfriend and they were on holiday at their dad's when he moved in but they came home, took it all in their stride and loved having him their. I was lucky because their dad was great too, he said he was completely confident in my new partner as he trusted my judgement.

KirstyW Yeah I would agree most men are complete sh*** better off with a dog or i can highly recommend a boyfriend body pillow - it wont lie , cheat, continually put the bathroom toilet seat up and then wee all over the rim and floor, continually move the toilet roll wall-side pull down or pretend your bum isnt big when it is!

PS. Besides most men I know are becoming MGTOW and joining the MANOSPHERE lol

I am a card carrying member now and its great!

Perhaps you should consider joining the LGTOW and FEMOSPHERE?

Aww some lovely stories on here! Mine is quite boring, I met my boyfriend through his brother as me and his brother used to work together as technicians, we got introduced and went out a few times together and just clicked. We have been together over 8 years now, it will be 9 years in September, moved into our own home about 3 years ago. Not bad considering I was 17 when we first got together, and he was 25! x

Some of these stories are so sweet. I knew my husband from work (it was a part time job, we were both in education) and I’d speak to him if we were on the same shifts but nothing ever happened at work it was all friendly! Anyway we happened to bump into each other in a nightclub in our city and said hello how are you etc then both got on with our night, saw him again towards the end of the night and he without warning kissed me! We exchanged numbers & the rest is history. That was six years ago 😊

I fell over in a nightclub, he saw me and thought "drunken tart" (I wasn't drunk I just fell over) who he was with rushed to my rescue and I paid "the rescuer" absolutely no attention and just saw a man, we kind of got pushed together. We got talking exchanged phone numbers and 21 year later we've been married 19 years and have an 18 year old daughter. He didn't want to go clubbing the night we met he was happy playing snooker in the pub, but I frequently say aren't you glad you got outvoted on snooker in a pub? Of course he says noπŸ˜‚

I met my girlfriend at college when I was 17 and I was smitten straight away; we were just friends at first as she had a boyfriend at the time, it turned out that he was a nasty piece of work for the entire relationship, he used put her down and make snide comments about me; to her, but she stayed with him for some reason; this year we will have been together for 2 years and we couldn't be without each other.
