Do Members Get the "Deals Site" They Deserve ?

Latest Deals

In my view latest Deals has become all about earning points πŸ˜’. As such we have lost the plot!

Points for "Likes" have rightly been discontinued - but members can still like a great deal .

I posted a TCB deal yesterday for a "Free Β£2 " with a Β£10 purchase . Was effectively a free Β£2.20 on a Β£10 Supermarket giftcard .

Free money , but "liked" only 4 times and never made the "popular page " so swiftly dropped off the new page never to be seen again or noticed by many members who perhaps would have welcomed Β£2 + off their next shop ?.

I hope many saw it and got the "free Β£2" but "forgot" to like it so it would come to the attention of fellow members .

Remember a "Like" may no longer gain you 5 points (whoopee !) but it will still promote deals to be noticed by fellow members .

Are we a site where members look after each other or not ? Or do folks simply come here to post duff deals and post inane Chat topics solely for points ?

Sadly all too obvious ,when will members realise a deals site only works when members post deals they really believe are good .

Don't get me started on "Chat " , should be for advice or discussion not for regurgitation of a 3 week old "News topic" found in Metro or similar πŸ™„.

Golfforall Three week old! "News Topic" TODAY I saw one over 300 years old. relating to something that happened in 1797 and another announcing a jail break, a week after four of those who'd escaped had been recaptured. (no mention of the recapture - though)

It would be better IMO if points were not awarded for chat - then there'd be a chance more would post things of real interest, knowing their topics had a chance of staying on the top page, instead of being pushed down by the total dross.

davidstockport Nothing against "Chat" but why for gawds sake reward it with points ? We get the same few members replying to each others topics for mutual points gain every day .

Then a member asks for advice (for instance) and that genuine chat topic disappears off the bottom of the page (never to be seen again ) while the same 4 or5 usual suspects post and reply to their 2 a day inane topics filling up the page 😫

Have Latest Deals not noticed !!!

well I for one actually enjoy the general chat. If I feel I have something to say I will join in otherwise I wont bother. As for just doing it for the points - I can look back and see that on average I am 'earning' 22-25p a week - I can earn more than that on just about any survey site - When I eventually get my next voucher I am sure it will be a nice bonus - but its a hell of a lot of work for the money. I join in as I enjoy it and the vast majority of chat is friendly. When chats do get into the usual two or three people antagonising each other then I dont bother joining in. I can take it or leave it. If its deals you want - there are plenty here. If its competitions then there are plenty here too. If its general chat you want - then thats available too. If people dont like how the site works then there are other sites out there, some of them quite good, but I have to say this is my favourite as its it is generally friendly and welcoming. All the moaning about what others do is getting a bit boring if I am honest

I take it you haven't noticed that 70% of the chats are started by the same 4 or 5 members ? And replied to by the same 4 or 5 members (there is a clue there ? ) . Yes chat is good , but when rewarded with points is obviously open to abuse . Why reward it ? Perhaps you may like to check it out and maybe reconsider after knowing the reality ?

When the same few members dominate "Chat " for points gain then it leaves very little room for normal Chat . Have you missed that important point ? I too would love to see normal chat πŸ˜€ . Giving points for chat has so obviously just led to it's abuse .

Let's see points for Chat ended and see how many of the usual suspects continue posting their 2 a day ?

Then perhaps "Chat" can get back to it's original function ? Just a Thought πŸ˜€

I too like the general chat (and don't see why members should get any points for doing so).

You perhaps haven't noticed how quite a few earn points if you reckon you get 20 - 25p a week. (I'm sure, that you'll not want to copy though) how you can get more in just one day:

Post two topics a day (you can copy and paste "news items" from any old rag of any old rubbish to save time. Each of your posts will get 40 points - almost guaranteed because someone else doing the same will comment and between you you'll get the 40 points for a popular comment. that's eighty points. Then because you exchange comments with the other person you can soon get 5x20 points for commenting that's taken you to ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY! (at which point you might think you're playing darts - and doing wellπŸ˜€). Then with a little luck and some help from others colluding in the game you can get UP TO another 100 points if three of them like your comments. If you get the maximum that is 280 points which equals 28p. That's in one day. Which is somewhere near what a person who has a job earns in a minute. But probably welcomed by those who don't work - I suspect some are unemployableπŸ˜€

I forgot to mention that you can double your money if you get another account. But beware: if and when the extra account is discovered, you will lose all your accumulated points and both accounts instantly, nevertheless you can use the extra account/s (until you get caught) to like comments on your others, or harass other members who don't agree with you or the way you damage this site.πŸ˜€

Incidentally there is a way a member can legitimately get more than the 280 points per day via chat, it's theoretically unlimited, but I'm not going into detail here - let's see if anyone else has worked it out?

Like

Grannyclock OK Grannyclock here's the answer: Although there is a daily limit of five of how many times members can get twenty points for commenting There is no limit to how many comments a member can make, and the comments in excess of five still get 20 points if three or more like them.

A ferinstanceπŸ˜€: If a member made 100 comments and they all got three or more likes then two thousand points would be awarded.

Don't tell the trolls or points gatherers (some are already in groups of three or more) although I'm reasonably certain some action would be taken before they bankrupted LD. (I have noticed just saying another member's name or posting a smiley or GIF, as a comment, often gets likes)

Stopping points for chat entirely would be the easiest answer.

(well that's my twopennorth - who knows this time next year I could be a millionaire!) Image

Grannyclock If you don't get many likes on your comments perhaps you need to join one of the little groups who obviously agree to like each other's comments.πŸ˜€ Some will even tag their cronies to ensure their comment isn't missed. Now I've mentioned it you'll probably notice itπŸ˜€

Might add one such group member is very fond of telling others that "nobody likes them". Take no notice! (mental age appears to be less than his shoe size, most of us leave such things behind us when leaving infant school).

D, you are wasting your time , there are two on here on a mission to destroy chat and slowly trying to enlist support from others, hoping LD will support them to change the system

If i didnt know any better i would say they are under the illusion they are running LD

I really dont know what their problem is, chat is working perectly well , a lot more interesting articles are being posted provoking more discussion

I can only assume as they rarely post anything it is the green eyed monster, jealousy of others that do

What is this costing them, nothing, so why the concern ?

Is chat going to fall into decline because more people are contributing , i dont think so

The only thing they have succeeded in doing is to cause arguments between members and had some posts locked or removed

How productive is that ?

As you say if its about points and money there are far more easier ways to earn 25p or less per day than this, so if they think LD will go into liquidation because of any extra costs they need to have more belief in the website

I myself do chat because i like to interact with other more pleasant LD members, the ones that appreciate communication and occasional banter

Calling us trolls when they are doing the trolling is a bit farcical

Anyway let them carry on as they are doing , it has to come to a head at some point , and when the hole they are digging is deep enough lets hope it implodes

didbygraham Perhaps you should ? Do you think Latest Deals have a bottomless pot of money ? (Perhaps you do ? ) .

Then if members "game " the site just to get vouchers without adding to the site (as so many are doing ) then there are less available for other genuine members . So then the site has to reduce points earning opportunities for it's many genuine members ?

Hope that's not too difficult to understand ? I did really think it was obvious . Perhaps you haven't thought it through ? Or perhaps you believe in the bottomless pot of cash πŸ™„.

Golfforall but if it ever came close to that they could quite easily just turn it off or change how points are allocated - which they clearly do from time to time. I do understand where you are coming from - I just happen to disagree slightly. I come here for the deals and the chat and the competitions. I am not that fussed about the points - although sometime next year when I hit the next stage it will be a pleasant bonus. Kelsey and the Team can see a lot more information on what goes on and can easily spot if anyone is really 'gaming' the system to such an extent that it threatens the site or just just really unfair on others. I am relaxed enough to let them get on with it.

didbygraham That is what I thought a couple of years back - it's just the odd one abusing the site , if they are comfortable with it fair enough .

Advertising and referrals is a strange world . The more members you have the more you can ask in referral fees . Word gets round - Join Latest Deals - just click on "like " , click and paste poor Amazon Deals , post a couple of Chat topics per day and you'll get an Amazon voucher every couple of weeks .

Again , no problem , led to a site filled with very poor deals - but I could see the business model - increase the membership to increase the referral fees .

Unfortunately a "Deals site" cannot prosper without decent deals and this site (during it's effort to increase membership ) allowed all sorts of duff deals and inane Chat topics to earn points .

It is not a charity , so at some point the members must realise that and stop posting rubbish deals , inane chat topics etc otherwise the "Golden Goose " will die .

I am a great supporter of Latest Deals and the efforts the team make to reward its members , but it doesn't take an economic genius to know that the business model will only work if members share genuine Deals and use Chat for chatting (rather than a points earning exercise ) .

That's why I started this post - to perhaps make members realise that the site can only ever be as good as its members input ? And to be frank members input of late has been pretty poor at best .

I must admit I hadn’t really thought about likes keeping the deal showing for longer. I usually list by β€˜latest’ anyway. I love the TCB bonus and am always surprised how few people seem interested in them. It is the same when I post deals giving free food on Checkoutsmart, Green Jinn etc. which involve cashback.

Although it perhaps isn't too noticeable yet - there is IMO a slight improvement in good deals that show for longer, since deals were LIKED for no other reason than the LIKER got five points a time for clicking on the LIKE tab. It appears only deals that are actually liked get LIKED now.

Site has increasingly been moving the way of another well known site, front page which attracts the most likes is dominated by staff deals each day (even got one that just pastes and copies large numbers of deals each day from the other site), other that certain favoured members pushed to the front page each day. Admin seems to favour certain members and if you can ever get a response from them it's an automated response these days and Chat is dominated by a handful of members who post mainly news stories , overall the site has become quite dull and uninteresting but predictable each day.

As you know, I firmly believe that points shouldn't be rewarded for chat at all. Chatting is a great way to socialise and get to know others, and I don't see why you should be rewarded for doing something that comes naturally that all humans do. And of course you do get those who abuse the system. One thing I have been noticing though (which is good!), is that the inane 'this or that' topics seem to have gone out of fashion... for now.

As for the deals, people tend to be lazy and often can't be bothered looking past the first page (I must admit, even I've been guilty of this). There are many great deals on here if you properly look around. It's a shame that many of them get overlooked.

I am grateful to you both for one thing, you have improved my typing skills enormously since you first made your feelings known about chat and myself a few months ago

Nothing deceptive about editing a spelling mistake though, earlier I edited neverthess to nevertheless when I noticed it, if anyone had pointed it out I'd have thanked them then edited it.

FYI "p*****d off" isn't considered aggressive in the context I jocularly used it, you're the only one who seems to see any offence in it. (or do you? - probably just any excuse to moan!).

As for points I don't post for points... I think I might have upset some people who do though. Image
