Should They Be Messing with the Mince Pie ?
Ask a Question
I love the traditional mince pie, its such a unique taste
But manufacturers are offering so many variations , the latest is to appeal to the young, new flavours that include cookie style and plant based pastries
Asda recipe has the pie laced with sloe gin and Tesco has spiced rum. Sainsburys is doing a cookie cup pie , a cookie-style pastry, flavoured caramel filling and crumble topping
Just give me a normal mice pie without the trimmings
What do you think ?
The tesco spiced rum are nice- spirit of christmas taste- but i think theres some out with savoury flavours in asda-? Just yuk!
I know C, why ruin a good thing, just make a richer pastry or content if they want to improve it, stop messing with tradition
We could just buy ordinary jar of mincemeat & make some.....i thought bout doing that the other day.
Yes a lot of people make their own, at least you know whats going into them
I saw a something on ITV last year , i think it was the chef off one of the cooking programmes showing how they make them in a factory, the amounts of fillings are vast and imported from abroad
Just remembered it was greg wallace
Stores have been trying to introduce us to new flavours for years. I remember Waitrose bringing in Heston to change our pallets. I fell for by buying some hot cross buns, didn’t like them and twice the price.
I buy the ones with plant based pastries or make my own as I can’t eat regular mince pies due to allergies. I’d love to be able to just buy one of the cheaper packs of mince pies and eat a regular one, but if I did it’d make me sick for weeks. So in my opinion, yes they should offer different mince pies as alternatives. But they should also still continue to sell the traditional ones.
I'm a great fan of traditional mince pies, but I am a great believer of variety is the spice of life
But I bet you anything that very few of any of these new flavours will be around next year
i think its great to have a variety obviously the classic is best but sometimes that can get boring
I hate the nasty little things so any change would be a improvement I know I’m in the minority but can’t stand them
I definitely believe they can be improved upon and the proof of the pudding is as they say in the orders I get every year. I started making for family, which then grew to my boss, 4 female friends, 2 lots of neighbours etc. I now make about 12 dozen and haven't even started this year's.
Yes everyone likes the pure butter 'normal' ones, but favourite seems to be frangipane, followed by Viennese and crumble. And I must admit to adding Disarrono to the mix!
If it ain't broke don't fix it eh tel?I don't like people who mess about with my coffee either aka pumpkin soy peppermint caramel gingerbread and on..
I love all the new flavours. As long as the traditional versions are still available then why do people get so upset by the new ones? Its called choice - its easy enough not to buy the new flavours - and if not many people do then they wont return next year.
I’ve never liked them and for years it feels like they keep trying to tinker with the recipes to get people to start liking them again, but judging by how many never get sold and are heavily reduced, they don’t ever seem to get it right
I think mince pies are like marmite, some people love them some people hate them, i think nothing of eating four in a row , but i do suffer after as the filling is rich
I don't like them myself but I do make them for Mr T but I make them as file pastry parcels.
Mmmmmm I like quite a lot of different mince pies
From the original
To a mince pie muffin
But it’s like with everything especially coffees.
N crisps
