bzortead Its one too many bad apples B, they take an oath to serve the public , you need to trust everyone who is in a postion of power to act in the publics interest

And we all know unfortunately there are many scandals that come to light concerning the police,

I have a friend who used to work for margaret thatchers security team , he is retired now obviously , and he has told me stories that you would not believe concerning corruption and other unsavoury acts, he says it is still rife today

The police do try their best , they have a very difficult job dealing with todays society , but there probably will always be the bad amongst the good

telmel There are bad apples everywhere. The important is that they are caught and removed from society. Police officers are normal people like any other. This is like saying that if a bus driver commits a crime, the entire category is under suspicion.

And I don't even know anyone who is a police officer, I wouldn't have any reason to defend them, but it's funny how people accuse an entire corporation as if it's commonplace. Just use Google to know that this is likely to be the first Met Officer in 50 years to do something like that.

Leannexxx I know that. But again, ONE police officer from a 43,571 total personnel.

Is it fair to say all the police officers are potential murderers? How may police officers killed and raped girls in the last 100 years?

How many people has been killed in the last 12 months by a black guy, by a white guy, by a Muslim, by a Catholic?

Are you going to blame the entire community for it?

Leannexxx In my nearly 40 years, I have never had a single problem with police officers, and having lived in 3 different countries, I can honestly say that British police officers are by far the most polite and friendly in dealing with the general public.

But if you think that no policeman will ever commit a crime, then you will always suffer from it, because human beings are corruptible, be they a doctor, a policeman, a nurse, a politician, etc.

It matters that they're polite? Okay.

To me they can be rude, arrogant, whatever, just as long as they're doing the job they're supposed to. There are far more important things than feelings.

Chelsea0121 Yes, I am sure that at this moment, many police officers are contacting models for fake nude shoots, pretending to be a pilot 🙃 It happens all the time. I got two calls today to join them.

PhilipMarc It sure matters. If you've seen how police in other countries behave, it will show you a big difference. Most police around the world undergo military training and are extremely aggressive, even in the most mundane approaches. I know nothing will ever be perfect, but the British police fail a lot more by being soft than the other way around. People just don't understand it because they've never lived in other countries to know what it's like for a policeman to attack anyone for not having a good day.

The big problem is the calibre of people being taken on now

People are reluctant to join the force any more as its become too dangerous , with stabbings and assaults daily , its becoming as bad as in the US

So they take on lesser qualified people and dont carry enough thorough checks on them, hence the bad ones that slip through the net, thats my thoughts anyway

I had the opportunity to join them about 10 years ago and didn't go for it, now I'm glad as I would have resigned. I've seen things personally that makes me despise them.

Its a shame its gone this way, people need some kind of organisation that can help and protect the vulnerable in society , but people do mistrust the police so much now

I could never be in the force , even if i was the right age, who wants to be a punchbag or have a knife stuck in them ,or shot in some cases, this is what they face each day from the crazies

I can imagine they will try to avoid this type of confrontation and get through the shift alive, all for an average of £25,000 a year, HGV drivers are getting £40,000 plus now and have less chance of losing their life

This must be more wide spread than you think as it was only the other week that there was an article about how to look out for hidden cameras in airbnb
