Mince Pies. Yummy or Not?
Ask a Question
Just had my first mince pie of the season
I used to hate them as a kid, but really enjoy them now.
Do you like a mince pie? Are you a traditionalist and get plain ones or do you like the strange flavoured ones that you can get from places like Aldi?
Definitely love them, I've not met a mince pie I didn't like. I like the shortbread type pastry best but don't mind other types and prefer them hot with a dollop of cream.
They've never done it for me. I don't like anything with dried fruit in really. There should be a law against it.
I make my own with fruit that has been soaked in plenty of brandy. Love them, they never last long!
gerrykelly25 My mother used to make them and they were shocking. That's what probably put me off mince pies for so long.
She's never been a good cook and some of the stuff she makes is almost criminal
I do like a mince pie, traditional ones, I've never tried the strange flavoured ones as they've just never appealed to me.
I like mince pies but as the only one in household who does rarely bother makes me feel greedy eating a whole box
Love them and always try and stock up at the end of December when they are 10-25p a box so i have enough till August
I make my own mice pies. . I put cranberries in mine and some orange juice and mixt it all to gather. Then the mincemeat is not dry. And some time I put mix nuts in. I make them all the time. Hope I can get mincemeat this year.
nicolajaynehend sounds lovely,I've got two jars for the filling, must practise this weekend x
Has anyone tried making them,I've got two jars of the filling, but just not been tempted enough to make them x
They are really easy to make. Shortcrust pastry, scone cutter, small yorkshire pud tin and way you go, yum yum. I could never make enough when in the 'family unit'.
nina090976 I always put a 'lid' on but you can leave open or put thin strips of pastry and dust with icing sugar when cool. Don't forget to send some my way
I love mince pies in all their many forms.
Particular favourites are puff pastry ones, and iced topped ones; although the latter does make your teeth ache.
Get yourself some sensodyne for after eating! I must admit I love the shop bought cream filled puff pastry ones but don't buy them nowadays as the calorie count alone puts me off.
Lynibis Not tried cream filled ones, but they have just gone on my shopping list
I’m not a fan at all, but there was one time I tried a freshly made one, one with lots of alcohol in it (or perhaps I was drinking at the time?) and it wasn’t that bad
I love mince pies, they are a great tradition. I had special mince pies last Christmas with chocolate chips on top and gin in them, they tasted lovely
I don't like them and I have tried different varieties, none of which were enjoyed. I would still try them just in case
Why, do you think they are made from animal meat? What's not to understand if you know it's fruit.
I love them when they're the right pastry and fruity boozy filling so they're worth all those extra pounds ;)
I never buy mince pies, I make my own. Sometimes with a Viennese topping, sometimes pastry, sometimes crumble. I also play around with the filling often adding liqueurs or vanilla etc. I have to make about 6 dozen as my boss, 3 friends and 2 daughters in law all put in their orders lol.
I love them, but struggle to find ones I can eat due to allergies, so I usually end up making my own in December.
I love my mince pies. Aldi do some decent ones (a pack of 6) for 79p. Better than the more expensive Mr Kipling ones in my opinion.
I personally don't like mince pies, my partner does though and picked up a box of iced ones tonight, they are his favourite.
I love mince pies. Myself and mother law try and get our fill. Before we can't no more. I used to make my own. Not now. I'll try any flavours. The in law sometimes makes her own as she coeliac and diary free. There is more choice these days of for allergy suffers,(a little bit). I have to hide some, or my two eldest daughters pinch them all.
My only problem I have with mince pies isn't the taste but that the shops stop selling them outside of September to December.
I love the mince pies and go round the stores taste testing them for scientific purposes.
I love mince pies but not cold. They always taste better warm and a big blob of thick double cream.
Very yummy! Loved them as a child, then could not have them for years as they had animal fat blobs in ... brilliant that for last twenty years all gone suitable for vegetarians etc
So good with cream or ice cream, and had some iced ones from Sainsbury's free from range last year fixed with gold, nice for a change
