Mini Fridges

Ask a Question

Does anyone own one of these? I’m wondering if I can use one to tide me over until I get a proper replacement. Do they keep supermarket milk fresh for a few days? Everything online only talks about breast milk and I don’t have kids and 52! All I want is normal milk. I think I can borrow one from someone but don’t want to anyone’s time. Thanks.

I know the really cheap ones are very energy inefficient, the typical very small cheap plasticky Chinese ones. I would check the energy efficiency rating but if its just for a short time it won't matter I guess.

A lot of them are not fridges but chillers so they would be no good for milk and perishables just for chilling drinks. Check out your local Facebook groups and marketplace for people giving away fridges or selling cheaply

emmabeckz A lot of them are mini-fridges though. A quick google shows very small fridges around £30 which can be used for food and milk etc. They often show food and milk inside them.

BonzoBanana see the comment and picture below by lilyflower those types are called mini fridges but are not actually refrigerators and the below comment by Emerge11 I'm not the only one to say it but I was the first to point it out - you need to be careful with milk and perishables at the right temperature and the op asked advice and I feel I gave them the correct advice to check if they are actually fridges to store dairy milk 🤷🏽‍♀️

emmabeckz A quick look on Amazon shows this;

Over 900 sold in a month and the reviews are great, you can set it to down to minus 20 degrees that of the ambient temperature and also increase the temperature if you wish. I just can't see how such a device wouldn't be effective at keeping milk cool etc. This particular model is a little small though. I'm pretty sure my fridge/freezer fridge section doesn't have the ability to go below freezing point like this mini-fridge. My house is typically less than 20 degrees in temperature, obviously for those who keep their houses hotter it won't go as low. In the reviews someone said it was brilliant for storing breast milk. I've not read many of the reviews admittedly I just looked at the first few. My main concern though is the efficiency of such mini-fridges but seems like a good temporary solution and could then be useful elsewhere, cinema room, garden, shed, garage etc. I'm not saying they are the best solution though but surely they are a solution that would work better for some. I wouldn't dismiss them out of hand especially with so many who are obviously very pleased with them.

Why not try The British Heart Electrical Foundation for a Fridge. You get six months to take It back If not liked or It breaks down. I bought a small Freezer about eight years ago for £15 & Its still working. I only wanted It for joints of meat as I own a Fridge Freezer anyways. It`s the luck of the draw for the prices though as they do differ. A Mini Fridge? I wouldn`t bother as they are mostly coolers that runs from a fan & not a compressor. Better off with a proper compressor fridge. Or Facebook Marketplace you could try for a fridge.

If by mini fridge you mean something like Image don't bother, we had one for MIL to keep milk/butter/ham in for a day (save her going down two steps very time, it got restocked at night) and nothing stayed cool enough. It was replaced with Image

A small mini fridge just like the second one posted by lilyflower will do the job. When we were having work done on the house (before we moved in) we kept both milk and cold drinks in one for the builders tea/coffee. It worked perfectly well and we still have it, in good working order.

As i am quite disabled and struggle with stairs - i have a mini fridge in my bedroom in case i want a cup of tea when I’m in bed. It works just as well as my normal fridge. The same as a normal fridge- but a little more often - hoover the air intake bit that feeds the cooling fans x

Just a bit extra - mine can fit 3 x 4 pints of milk on the bottom shelf and small pasta salads (ok - chocolate biscuits in the summer). As I am so disabled I use it instead of bedside drawers as I can still use the top for my lamp, book I’m reading etc.

I hope this helps.

It’s 35cm tall. I removed the wire thing on the inside of the door.

JLouM to be honest I think it’s a little taller than that but I couldn’t find my tape measure so I used the height given on the same make of ‘the table top’ fridge

I used to have one for just drinks - they’re fine for beers and alcopops

I don’t think they are good enough for perishable food and drink. I hope you get sorted though

You'd be better of just buying an under counter fridge as those mini fridges can be quite expensive. www.igenix.co.uk/products/under-counter-fridge-with-chill-box-91-litres-white
