Mixed Feelings about the Shpock Marketplace
Money Saving
I've had about three sellers who made a commitment to sell me the item on the agreed price, but at the last second they decided to quit and for some reason block me. The third one kept asking for a Bank Transfer and I told him I'd send him the money via PayPal on Friends and Family (no fees). Besides, I'm the one who's taking a risk sending total strangers money without protection so I suppose it's not entirely a negative thing the deals fell through for whatever reason.
I really don't get Shpock, to be honest.
Surprisingly, I've found some really good deals on CeX Online where their prices are far lower than eBay or Amazon. Cash Converters is great, too.
Now, that's not to say Shpock is all bad, but there's a lot of weird stuff that happens and I can't even tell why. Oh, well.
I have had some bad experiences with shpock but mainly good ones. I once had a lady offer the full amount for a TV I was selling and accepted the deal and then she didn’t send one message so I couldn’t arrange her collecting it so I just relisted the TV and sold to someone else. Another bad thing is that they can leave you bad reviews after accepting the deal even if they didn’t go through with the purchase so they may just leave nasty feedback because they can! I don’t use it much now as it seems the deals aren’t as good as when it first came out, everyone has got rid of all their unwanted items lol!
Luckily they didn't leave negative feedback but now it's showing three purchases and I only made about two officially due to the others being cancelled for whatever reason.
I dont use it anymore i find facebook marketplace and gumtree better. Be careful sending money by bank tranfer or friends and family paypal as thats what the scammers want as theres no protection.
You're right. That one guy who wanted a Bank Transfer was really odd, like why couldn't PayPal work for him? It was only £10 and I was willing to send him via Friends and Family so no fees.
Scam me out of £10? I don't know.
Rockman if i buy something and use paypal if they say friends and family to avoid fees i will always pay a little bit extra so if its £10 inwould pay £10.56 via goods and services so they still have £10 and im covered if they dont send it. Theres a calculator you can google to work out fees.
That's true, I just kind of trust people to do what they're supposed to. KirsteyJames
I have never had problem with sphock I mainly use it to sell items and except both no trouble I also send tracking number over but I do check there reviews first
I've only ever tried to sell there so far, but ended up selling on Facebook instead. I'd only go with cash though - that's the benefit of local sales (plus no ebay fees of course).
I agreed to buy a bicycle on Shpock and turned up with the money but they refused the sale so I'd wasted a small amount of petrol getting there about a 10 minute journey, I seem to remember the person who answered the door wasn't all there, on drugs or something. That was a couple years ago, I have bought and sold a few things on shpock without problems but I don't use it much I must admit.
For some reason also when I give the site access to my location the location it sets is nowhere near where I live its about 30 miles away so I always have to manually add my post code. Not sure why it doesn't store my location. So to get the correct items for my area isn't as easy as it should be.
I absolutely hate this app, the fact that once the person has accepted a deal and you can’t cancel is the main problem for me as there’s so many time wasters on there who agree to buy and then never arrange a time or I give out my address and they don’t show up and reply to messages. I know these problems occur with any selling platform but it’s the fact you can’t cancel the deal and explain that they’ve wasted your time! And then it still states they’ve made X amount of deals when they didn’t even come through AND then they can still give you bad reviews. I ’sold‘ some ted Baker lipstick on there (part of a gift set but certain shades I wouldn’t use). The lady confirmed the deal and then stopped replying to messages and had the cheek to leave me negative feedback saying she didn’t want my fake goods! I’ve stopped using it tbh.
I just uninstalled it. Shpock felt like a waste of time for me with sellers who'd either not reply or accept then cancel.. sigh.
