Money Found on the Street

If I find money in the street it usually just goes straight into everyday spending.

Best I've ever found was a fiver a couple of years back, it was on a main road so no idea where/who it had come from, so it was only polite I picked it up and "recycled" it.

I found a envelope with 80 in just before Xmas most I every found

I was found £20 lying on the road in the street! Think it went on food shopping though

We all do it, finders keepers and all that but is that right. I once returned a complete handbag, a purse and a wallet. All different people. Got no reward for any of them. Makes you think.

Unfortunately, I don't find money often enough to do something like that. The last time was a few years ago when I found a £10 note.

I lost an envelope in Tesco's, it had a £100 and my electric cards for the meter, the £100 was to do my shopping. I retraced my steps, didn't find it, went to customer services,it had not been handed in, so I put all the shopping back in its rightful place, was just about to walk out the store and my name was called out over the loud speaker system went to the desk, and some person had handed it in, all present and correct. I was so relieved as I couldn't afford to be without my cash and electric. I asked had the person left a message or name and addy, nothing. I did put a message in the local rag to say Thank You. I would never keep it if I find money, I will always hand it in, When I was a kid, I found a purse in the park, and I took it to the Park keeper, he took my name and address, and I did forget about it, and one day as I got home from school there was police car outside our house. When I went in,he asked me if I remembered the purse I found,I said some of it, he said its yours, Because no one had gone to police station asking for it. and I said I didn't go to the police station, it was the Park keeper that had taken it, and gave them my details there was £25 in notes and some change.

I did get a Postal Order for 5/- when I was little. Dad and I found a purse and took it to Police Station, (Dad said I'd found it). The person who lost it claimed same day as they were visiting town on holiday and sent me the reward when they returned home

Some years ago I found a wallet one evening on the floor at a London mainline station. I tracked the owner via the name on his credit cards and by calling someone with the same surname that was on a business card. Turned out it was his brother. I got the owner's address which was only a few miles from my home and drove over there immediately from my station. He got his wallet back before he knew he'd lost it!

I once followed a group of boys down into a subway. I was in my home town at the time and there were clearly visitors. I was broke! A wallet fell out of the back pocket of one of the boys and I picked it up then caught them up and handed it to the boy concerned, he was really pleased as he hadn't felt it escape from his pocket (with all his holiday money in). Even though I was broke I couldn't keep it.

My dad told me story of when his dad found a wallet without I D in,years ago and he took it to police station ,where it turns out the man who'd lost it happened to be , and it had his months wages in and this was in times without all today's benefits so he was worried about how he was going to feed his kids,when my late grandad handed it in ,he was crying.

If I find money on the street, it goes straight to charity, its not your money to keep, regardless of finders keepers. Its better it goes to someone less fortunate.

Iv found 2 purses in my life. First as a kid, I found a purse while in town with my mam. I cant remember how much it had in it, but it was a fair amount. Mam explained to me someone had worked hard for that & it could be all they had left in the world & the right thing to do was hand it in, Which is what we did at the local station. A month or so later we received a lovely message in a card from the lady whom it belonged to full of gratitude. Years later I found another purse outside my mams front door, with £40 in notes & some loose change, I recognized the name on the credit cards of someone who lived a few doors along, knocked, no answer so just posted it through letterbox. A couple days later she knocked at my mams with a bunch of flowers to say thank you. I always hope someone would do the same for me. If it was just small cash I found tho that I couldnt trace I'd probably just give to my kids.

The only money I have ever found is when I was a little girl and found 10 euros in France, I was over the moon as a child lol. Last year I dropped my contactlesss bank card in the middle of town in Solihull, I drove home before I realised and got back roughly an hour later to find it on the street in the same place where I had dropped it! I was convinced someone would use the contactless and go spending.

I agree if it’s a larger amount of money you should deffo hand it in. Even if it’s not someone’s pension or they are rich or whatever you want to label it, if it’s hard earned money, everyone deserves their money. Coins I can understand but a large amount is best to hand in. Even if you don’t get rewarded, at least you know in your heart you have done all you can do which is doing the right thing

So all of you on this website that take freebies whice some cost a few Bob if weren't a price glitch that's not taking off someone there business. I was found in a load a leaves covered in mud most prob there few days. If I found a suitcase full I would keep that too

finding money is always considered a lucky event, in my opinion. It ought to bring the person who found it some luck, even if for a moment when you get the 'kerching!' feeling

I found a used scratchcard on my street. i was thinking one good deed for the day and I pick it up to throw in my recycling bin. When i got home I decided to just check it before throwing and it was a winner. £3 happy me. I checked no name was written on the back.

As a teenagee I was walking on an underpass and saw a purse. Opened up and saw a photo. Looked around and spotted a woman in front and on the off chance ran up to her and she was the same woman in the photo. Gave her purse back. She gave me £20 and at the time I was only on an apprenticeship wage of £60 a week so I was made up.

Not money but my husband was on a sporting event (he was taking part) anyway at the end when they were collecting their belongings the race organiser approached him. He handed him some gear and said this belongs to someone in England. On return we did a bit of homework and found the owner so posted it to him, postage over £10. He never thanked us or reimbursed us! I wish we handed his trainers and running gear to a charity shop.

Depends on how much I find if its change or a £5 note then i put it in a money jar and donate it to charity at christmas if its notes £5+ ill hand it in to police. If i find anything on buses usually give it to driver on way off bus.
