Mother's Name Will Be Included On Marriage Certificates
In the News
As of today the Home office have amended the Marriage Act so that both the father and mother's name will be added on the marriage certificate instead of just the father.
This is for England and Wales .. apparently the rest of the UK already had this implemented.
Also, you don't need to sign any papers at the registry office anymore..it's all going to be stored electronically now.
I know Scotland does as when I got married almost 6 years ago my husband and I had to put both our parents on the form. I thought it was a standard form for the UK, but apparently not.
I thought this was standard too, as it is in NI ... usually we are way behind the rest of the UK
I wonder how that will impact people in the Future tracing their family tree will they be able to access to obsolete technology
beccatavender I think it's going to be more beneficial now with the Mother's name known
Nadiaparveen You're so right that putting the mother's name on the marriage certificate is going to be useful to historians going forward. The question is whether they will be able to access the new, digital-only records held by the Registry Office.
