Do MP'S Deserve There £3600 Year Wage Rise?

In the News

Sounds a bit of silly question but MPS have been awarded by the independent authority IPSA a £3600 a year rise in wages, couple that with there expenses (yeah they still do milk the system) even after the expenses scandal.

Consider any alternatives maybe link it to people who work in our NHS so whatever MPS are awarded the doctors and nurse get the same .

Nope. They're voting against pay cuts for others but get significant pay rises themselves.

lornaae Exactly! They laugh at nhs pay rises and let companies suffer and let redundancies go through the roof then give themselves a pay rise.

Getsome They are already paid a great deal more than the likes of NHS staff who are more in need and deserving of that pay rise. But no, they'll take the rise themselves and vote against it for the NHS.

Could help stop their pay rise by signing the petition

Of course they deserve it maybe not all ? - for those too quick to criticise (in ignorance ?) the rise includes the running of their constituency office and staff .

Sadly headlines often ignore the actual facts to suit the political agenda .

Well, maybe they should be allowed a certain number of staff paid for out of central government payroll and not from them directly. It would stop abuse of the system where several MPs have been found in the past to have family members on the books doing sod all for the money.

When it comes to politics, the people who think they are above it all always want their cut...they Wouldn’t choose it as a profession if they couldn’t exploit it

Not in the slightest, they should be like New Zealand and take a 20% pay cut

Pay in the public sector should be awarded as ratio of actual private sector wages so the success of the economy would increase their wages and failure would lower it. At the moment the public sector is paying themselves far too much with pensions schemes few would have in the private sector. Private sector wages have dropped so public sector wages should drop too. If the average wage was £26k and you had a 2.1 ratio for MPs then the wage would be £54.1k but if the average wage dropped to £22k their wage would drop to £46.2k etc. In the real world often private sector wages drop due to the state of the economy but public sector wages stay the same or even increase which I think is very unfair.

Sadly the public sector is paying themselves far too much beyond what the country can afford without borrowing. The unions are a great thing in protecting people's rights and safety but where they operate to force higher wages which have to be forcibly paid for by the general population via taxation who don't get similar wages and pensions for the same work that is wrong and unjust.

Back in the 70s public sector wages and pensions were below that of the private sector but you had much greater job security. That is really where public sector wages should be.

As a country we are paying ourselves far too much and its funded by borrowing. The reality is probably all wages need to be about 70% of what they currently are in order to reverse borrowing and become more competitive and prevent such a high trade inbalance.

Absolutely not. My MP has been utterly useless every time me or someone in my community has asked for help. He doesn't even respond to emails (not that he has ever done a days work for us, his aides do). He's in a safe seat so doesn't have to bother....he doesn't deserve the pay he's on now let alone a pay rise

Not at all, and if they are 'forced too' one of them should set an example for the rest of the opposition parties and MPs to follow and donate there pay raise to school meals.
