Mystery Shopper

Ask a Question

Do you use mystery shopper in restaurants? I am thinking of applying as you can have a free meal. Do they pay quickly?

My partner has been a mystery shopper for years. He has done all sorts of places - banks, chemists, fast food restaurants, pubs, hotels. We once had a weeks holiday in a holiday park with the children which was great!

He has noticed that generally the payments have drastically reduced in recent years. They are okay if you were going for a meal anyway, as a portion of the cost is reimbursed but many have quite a specific remit, you are told what food and drink to order and often they will only pay for one meal. You won’t make much money doing Myst Shopping, but it can be an enjoyable side line.

They tend to reimburse monthly in to your bank account.

gerrykelly25 thanks. The thing is not very clear how much they pay. If they say up to £25 does it mean they can pay less or that is what you get? Don't want to waste my money.

GSM that usually means that is the maximum they will pay. If you spend £17 on the meal, that is what will be reimbursed. They tend not to pay mileage anymore either unless they are desperate to get the job done, so don’t agree to travel too far, unless it fits in with your plans.

Mick82 I think it is legit, there are many companies who ask for it.

I always get emails but don’t really rely on them as I haven’t ever seen any actual reviews to prove that someone else has ever been involved. To be honest its really hard to trust random companies nowhere days.

Hazel21 I totally agree. I will try once and if they don't pay me won't use them again

I did it for House Of Fraser. It was a free meal other than the 5 - 10 minutes of my time spent filling in a survey. Payment was usually within a month but it's not really a way to earn anything. It was more of a novelty.

It definitely is legitimate if you go through a reputable company. As I said above, my husband has been doing it for over twenty years!

Yeah Ive done restaurants , hotels and with them they do typically cost but you do get the money back .Sometimes its within the same month but its normally 1-2 months after you have done it .I would say though there is a lot to do on the assingments , sometimes u have to have a specific meal or drink but generally they are really good and enjoyable .
