Unusual Place Names In The UK

Ask a Question

Me and my family went to Skegness at the weekend and on the way we went past some rather unusual place names .For example Bunny in Nottinghamshire is 57 miles away from Jump in South Yorkshire .

Do u live in an unusual place name or nearby ?

I've always liked Grogport, a tiny village on the way to Campbletown on the Kintyre penninsula.

Devon has a number of areas with unusual names such as Beer, Cockwood, Frenchbeer and Sheepwash. Then there is Zeal Monachorum, which sounds more like a place on another planet.

There's somewhere in Orkney called Twatt 😊, I live in York and there's a road called Pavement and one called Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate, it's one of the shortest streets in the UK at 10 metres long

Genius .Loving these .I remember years ago we had pretty bad storms and Cockermouth was flooded and I do feel sorry for the people with the disruption but a reporter who was there reporting on it really did have the giggles every time they mentioned the name.
