Do You Like Your Neighbours?
Ask a Question
Out of curiosity, how is your relationship with your neighbours? Specially with the ones below or above you. Are we meant to have a cordial relationship?
I live in a bungalow so hopefully no one lives below or above me. I live in a small dead end road which has 24 bungalows in it. I know all my neighbours names and under normal circumstances chat with them daily as I walk my dog past their homes. Once a year one of the neighbours holds a garden party and some of us attend. Unfortunately this will not happen this year.
It is very important to be on friendly terms with your neighbours, even if you wish to keep private. Courtesy costs nothing and you never know when you may need a kindly neighbour's help. I have been very lucky to have always had good neighbours in at least 7 house moves.
I have horrendous neighbours on one side - they deal drugs so have people coming round every day (even in lockdown they had 10+ people at their door a day), they have loud parties regularly all night, there is 8 dogs living there at the moment - all of which who are VERY vocal and bark all day and there’s around 8 adults living in the 3 bed property.. the list goes on oh and my house constantly stinks of weed because it comes through the walls
GSM i’ve reported them to the police when they’ve been partying from 11pm - 6am on a weekday but they don’t do anything other than ask them to turn their music down.. can’t make any formal complaints because it will devalue my house
sarahgreen15 omg , is there no possibility that you can sell up and move? It will be horrendous raising your baby in that situation.
You may be better reporting to council as police are useless in these cases, do they rent or own?
Try to put up a discreet camera to show the police their dealing, it is after all illegal, and keep a diary.
Lynibis I own it.. the council advised me not to pursue a formal complaint as it devalues the house - if someone asks about how the neighbours are and I don’t tell them theres a formal complaint against them, then I could be liable I’m trying to find a new house for us but really difficult with all the current situation going on I‘m hoping the screaming baby will wake them up early and keep them up late
sarahgreen15 I so feel for you, I couldn't bare to live like that. I try to live my life with consideration to other's but when others have no consideration, and even cause others to live in fear and misery, there should be recourse.
I was more concerned that your baby would suffer with them keeping him/her awake at night. Hardly conducive to establishing a good bedtime routine. I was under the impression you had to disclose this sort of thing when selling whether reported or not? I was hoping that if they were renting you could get council to evict them as I know of places round here where that has happened.
Lynibis oh sorry, I thought you meant did I rent or own my house they rent it, but from a private landlord who used to live in it - he was almost as bad with the weed smoking and parties, but he didnt have dogs or anyone else living in the house, and he regularly visits the new people so I think they are friends and he wouldnt care
Ooohhhh... You poor thing, I had the problems like that before but it seems your is abit worse.
I use to live with my late dad & late grandmother, most of our neighbours where OK, it was just the 2 neighbours above ones.(plus one worse then the other)
Both dealing with drugs..
one of them always dropping things in our gardern.
Even sanitary pads at one time!
Me & my family tried to move but my grandmother was nearly totally blind so we lived on ground floor & we had a bedroom each.
That made council put us at the bottom of the list for years&years!
For this reason, we where not an emergency & we had no problems with our actual flat.
We had a gardern... All this was an excuse for council to put us at the bottom of the list.
There are treibble!!!, they ignore everything you say or pretend they are going to do something about it & then never do.
(Only thing dad managed to get the council to do was stop the neighbours from playing loud music after 10pm to 2pm)
Unfortunately when my dad & grandma past away, I had to move & am actually living in a area I know very well because I lived there through out my childhood.
Am just on a different road people are more respectful here unfortunately I don't leave in a house like I did in my childhood.
(I always wished we where able to stay at that house) but my late dad couldn't afford to buy the house which the landlord was selling... So that's why we had to move to an council estate.
So being in a better place now, am so glad to be out of there, it does bring tears to my eyes once in awhile when I past by the road I lived on during my childhood because I wish dad & grandma could see where I am now.
They would have been so pleased to move back here....
Am still in a flat but it is alot better then the struggles & painful time me & my family had to go through...
I have awful neighbours, they were ok to start off with but they then decided they owned every boundry line which they dont as stated in the deeds, i pointed this out and since then they've spoken and treated me like dirt. Just this last week ive caught them on cctv dumping rubbish outside my house !
Neighbours on the right are ok. Never seen or heard the ones to the left. It wasnt until recently we knew there was someone even living there and ive been here nearly 2 year
I used to have horrible neighbours but since I’ve moved I get on amazing with my new neighbours. X
Yes, all my current neighbours are very good as they aren't alcoholics with crack psychosis like my previous address.
We are in a bungalow in quite a quiet estate so no one really bothers with each other apart from pleasantries to say hello in passing
We get on with our neigbours. Our next door neighbour was brilliant when we had to stay in the hospital for 2 weeks, he took our bins in and out, kept an eye on the house, messaged us to check how we were doing. Our neighbour next to him are also lovely and we often help each other out with baby items. We know the other neighbours around us to talk to and they are all lovely and we would all help each other out. My friend lives just down the hill, one street away, so not a neighbour, but I know I can count on her if I need her.
I live in a terraced house and after years of death threats from the old neighbours, I finally have 2 lovely neighbours who I chat to daily and would do anything to help them as they would do me. I think its important in a family home to have consideration when having parties or a loud event that you let them know or even invite them (in usual circumstances obvi).
I do not have any neighbours wear I live. They are 5 miles away. Live on a farm very happy.
