A New Feature regarding Removed Posts
Latest Deals
Hello all,
I have an idea for a new feature regarding our posts, whether this be a deal, competition, freebie etc.
It can be very frustrating when we receive a notification informing us that our post has been removed for "going against the guidelines". This is mainly because we are not informed as to how exactly it went against the guidelines. We are just told that it's been removed. I posted a comp to win a Mini Cooper a few hours ago which I felt did not at all go against the guidelines. However, I have since received a notification telling me that the post had been removed due to "going against the guidelines". And I was and still am bewildered as to why exactly the post was removed.
So my suggestion is, to how about informing members why exactly their posts were removed? This would save a lot of frustration and confusion.
Thank you.
Hey RegularComper90 Thank you for your feedback!
We have a list of pre-defined reasons as to why a post may be removed from Latest Deals. If one of those reasons is selected then you should get a specific message as to why your post has gone.
Unfortunately we don't cover every possible scenario. Where there isn't an option that fits you may end up with the dreaded "See the guidelines" reason
If it isn't obvious from the guidelines then please do drop us a message via the contact form. We're more than happy to double check what's happened and provide you with a specific reason via email.
I've been on the receiving end of "See the guidelines" for other websites and know how frustrating it can be first hand. So please rest assured we are motivated to improve this to provide as much detail as possible - ultimately it benefits everyone involved. Members get more specific feedback and can understand what went wrong to avoid doing it again and it saves the LD team time with less clarification emails.
In short, I agree - we need to give more precise reasons more often!
RegularComper90 totally agree with this. I've had a few in the past and as the post is removed have no idea what the problem was. It would be good if it could be marked 'removed' as the 'expired' are or at least the OP could still see the post to see the problem.
Ohh I got today that my post was removed from few days ago, so of course points taken off , don’t mind if it happens on the day so can post something else but few days after it’s frustrating also sometimes admins add the picture if missing but sometimes it’s removed and doesn’t give you chance to fix it
Yes it’s very annoying and tbh I normally can’t be bothered to use the contact form to find out why. However, the last time I had something removed for a ‘duplicate’, I wanted to find out when I had posted it as I had no recollection of it, so I used the contact form - and I was informed by a Neeta that it was for a voucher posted 21 days ago! I stated that I thought removal after such a long period was a bit arbitrary and unfair it wasn’t picked up earlier, but Neeta wasn’t interested in addressing this matter, stating they could pull anything at any time. Therefore, for anyone posting on LD, just get used to the possibility that anything you post can be removed at any point, with points removed, etc
LD can certainly be very random at times can't it?
Though I am addicted to this site nevertheless.
Morning
This is a bit of an unusual one!
Our official guidelines on duplicates are that they can be re-shared after 30 days. We try and catch all duplicates at the time of posting but sometimes the system can't automatically detect them. In those cases we rely on member's reports and we handle them as and when they come in.
It could be a duplicate slipped through the system's net then 20 days later a member is searching for "toaster" and sees the same post twice. They helpfully report it as a duplicate as having the same post twice on the site isn't a good experience for all those toaster hunters!
The report comes in and we handle it like any other. I can certainly appreciate it may be a bit odd and/or frustrating to be on the receiving end of this. However we had to have a line somewhere and it seemed to make sense to match up with the reposting after 30 days rule (i.e. we'll handle a duplicate report if it's within the last 30 days. The system will actually not allow a post to be reported as a duplicate if 30 days have passed).
It's one of those scenarios where we couldn't see a perfectly ideal solution but we're very open to suggestions on how to improve/tweak the process!
Regarding your email response - I certainly wouldn't want any member to feel like a response from Latest Deals sounded like we didn't care! We definitely do and so I'll look into this and feedback to the team
Kelsey thanks for getting back to us, always greatly appreciated. I understand the safeguards in place and tbh I know it’s safer for it to be there rather than LD be open to abuse. The only tweak I can suggest is letting the poster know when it was removed - as the post is checked and removed manually anyway, the remover could just send a message, whether it be via the site or via email. Just having a little more info about a removal will help the poster know exactly what’s happened (at present for duplicates you only get sent a link to the person who pipped you to the post, but that doesn’t tell the poster when they posted it - and obviously if there are ever mistakes, you can never check yourself as the post gets removed). I will understand if this can’t happen as it may require a lot more legwork for something small, because of it is a process that can’t be automated, it’s probably too time consuming to do
