New Scam - Emailing Elderly and Vulnerable to Pay for Vaccine

A friend received an email saying the NHS have identified that you are eligible to apply for your vaccine. The NHS LOGO is clear then states follow the link and prove your identity with address and bank details. Although it says no payment will be taken! Don’t believe that for one minute.
Absolutely shameless! Please warn people.
I wondered how long it would take for these cretins to take advantage of the vulnerable, it's very sad. Thanks for the heads up, I will share the info.
Thank you for the heads up and warning. I am waiting for actual counterfeit vaccine vials to hit. Often you read about counterfeit tablets and medicines being sold as if legitimate....So quite sure the counterfeiters are hard at work already. A big shame but the criminal element will always be there.☹

Unfortunately it's not just emails people need to be wary of. There was a story on the news today about a man in London who went to a 92 year old woman's house, said he was NHS, gave her a fake Covid vaccine and then charged her £160.
I heard that this morning and am filled with disgust at the monsters who can actually stoop to such lengths to make money. We need to make sure that everyone is aware that the vaccine is free, although I for one would be perfectly happy to contribute at least £30 to the nhs for mine. Imagine how much could be raised if a contribution box was placed nearby, no pressure, no hints, just there for those who are grateful to be receiving the jab.

Yes, I mentioned this latest NHS one in a scam thread on here yesterday . Unfortunately Lynibis and JoTarpley got hold of the wrong end of the stick (incorrectly thinking I was critical of them ) and had a go at me instead of reading the content of my comment .
Good that you have brought the prevalence of this evil scam up again , there will be many like it over the next few weeks and some of our more "precious" members would be well advised to read and comprehend - not assume - before jumping off on one !

Read , digest and comprehend - then comment would be my considered advice to some members , too many forget the second two !
Those who jump to misunderstanding after a quick scan are exactly those who are at danger from these scams .
Its actually quite late for me (just finished night shift ) . There was a very enlightening 2 hour chat and Q and A on Radio 5 with Dr Chris Smith from 11pm to 1am . Golfforall I must admit that I'm guilty of making comments when I haven't read a post properly or miscomprehend what's being said, especially after a couple of glasses of wine

The fact your email address is available to scammers shows you have been a bit indiscrete with it in the past ?
Maybe instead of feeling so smug you should ask yourself "how did they get my email address" ? Its not random dialling like a phone number !

I don't know how these scammers can live with themselves. It makes me sooooooooo angry.
The thing is it's not personal with them . They just program a computer to send out millions of emails to email addresses they have harvested or bought on the dark web and just wait for the few dozen who fall for it .
Its not all about taking money immediately (although they will if they can ) it's about building a picture of a person and fitting it together for future use /sale .
For example
Name & Postal address from the electoral roll.
email address /phone number / DOB from competition entries /freebies / sign up for offers and such - not all are watertight many less reputable companies sell these on .
Then when a stolen or cloned bank/credit card (or a scam like this ) falls into their lap they have a complete picture . The software puts it all together with frightening efficiency .
This has took longer than expected to happen to be honest. It will only get worse and people need to be careful. Your data is probably already in a system and can be bought legally or illegally so watch out for any dodgy emails or phonecalls.
These are also being sent as text messages , I followed the link and the web page seemed kosher until the part where it asks for bank details , I deleted it but I should have kept it to show others what to be wary of . 
Always some idiot who wants to jump on the end of the band wagon and take advantage of the elderly do t think people like this who pray on the elderly or vulnerable will ever learn just hope they get there just desserts
