New website updates (2017)
Latest Deals
Big ol’ update time.
To old faces - hello again! To our new members - nice to meet you! I’m Kelsey, the resident geek of LD responsible for keeping the cogs turning and exterminating as many bugs as I can.
We’ve just put a big update to the website live and, as is tradition, we like to keep everyone up-to-date with the changes.
The biggest update is an exciting new tool that members of LD will get access to first. But we'll talk about that another time (soon!)
Here's what's changed:
- We’ve added in “Breadcrumbs” to all topics, pages (help, guidelines, etc) and blog posts to help you navigate around LD more easily.
- We’ve a shiny new “Page not found” page that prompts people to check out the homepage
- This ones a biggen! The text above the comment box now says “What do you think of this deal/comment/voucher/competition” rather than just “this”. Just in case people were confused
- We’ve got a sparkly new page for people that want to unsubscribe from our newsletter. We get that daily emails may be too much for some and so you can now choose to opt out completely or receive a weekly email instead.
- On the subject of newsletter subscriptions - you can now choose your preference of Daily/Weekly/Never () on your settings page.
- Whoops! New members signing up via Facebook weren’t receiving our newsletter. Sorry about that, should be all fixed now!
- Our welcome tutorial is now open to the world! Previously you had to be a member to access it but if you’re ever short of time and want to explain LD to a friend just chuck them this link: http://www.latestdeals.co.uk/start
- We’ve added (hopefully) easy to find links to the Dominos Voucher Finder and Amazon Discount Finder to the “More” menu.
- No more clearing cookies and cache and all that technical stuff to get an updated image to display. If you update an image on a post or deal it’ll now be visible to the world immediately. Rejoice!
- Like with posts, freebies and vouchers start with 1 vote/like, competitions will now start with 1 entry (we’ve just been bold and assumed the person sharing has entered themselves)
- You may have seen Tom got a little press coverage for our Dominos tool this week. I was hiding under the desk as over 4,000 people were on LD simultaneously but thankfully it all held together! Unfortunately, the link to get in touch with us on the Dominos page was broken. Doh! But now it’s fixed. Yay!
- We've tweaked the points and rewards system (this'll be ongoing until we get it Goldilocks "just right")
- You can now remove a price or the RRP from a deal once it’s been posted. We had, up until now, unintentionally forced you to keep a price and wouldn’t let you delete it. Sorry about that.
- We know HUKDer’s like the “@“ sign in their titles but - call us old fashioned - we’re rather fond of the more traditional “at”. We’ve added in some magic so that an @ in a title is automatically converted to “at” instead.
- Poor ol’ Tom and Deepak were struggling hunting down reported duplicate posts. We’ve made a change to the reporting system and would kindly ask anyone who reports a duplicate to include a link to the duplicate post. That way we can find it nice and easy like
- You can now delete your personal website from your user profile should you wish. Much like the price/rrp bug above - we didn’t want to let go and so weren’t letting you remove the website link. All fixed now mind.
Thanks for reading and if you have any feedback/suggestions/bugs please let me know!
Hey Kelsey, The problem is when we share a freebie we do not see anymore, if some shared it before. It should show us straight away like when we share a deal. Some of the freebies now shared 3 times...
Hi AgnesFaludi the system should report duplicate freebies like it does with deals. Unfortunately it doesn't always work! If you have an example of two posts where it didn't work please let me know and I'll investigate!
Kelsey Hi, I shared this one, but did not see someone shared before>

This one is not a freebie. I shared it long time ago like a competition, because everyday need to enter to win the box>
Now it is on the website at least 3x....

This other one also shared like 5 times> Free Aldi nappies...

I will search a bit later and see if I find something else.
AgnesFaludi Just find one right now....first page...deals

Someone shared it before BestOffer ....We are keep sharing links again and again....
Hi clareemckenzie it's an automated system that detects duplicate posts and, unfortunately, it doesn't always work If you could let me know when you notice it not working that'd be great! Hopefully I can then improve things
"We've tweaked the points and rewards system"
Has that any affect on how many times points are earned each day per action? such as how many discount codes you have shared in the voucher section?
Hi SteveMate - yes we've tweaked the number of points awarded and the number of times you can earn points for certain actions per day. We've also added in a change that rewards people more points for longer comments - hopefully encouraging some discussion alongside the "Thanks" or "Good deal" comments (which definitely have their place too!)
Ah yes, I forgot about that one! Unfortunately it only works on some retailers - it depends if their website is nicely coded or not as to whether we can automatically grab it. Websites are improving all the time though - a lot more are "properly" coded now as compared to when I started out with Pedlar. Makes things a lot nicer if we can grab the image and price
Kelsey I just had a thought... In the past two days I have reported 2 items as duplicates. I understand you can earn points on this and possibly someone had got there before me? Is it maybe worth showing that an item has been reported as a duplicate or marked as expired. I'm not sure if you would receive multiple notifications for this from people reporting at your end but it could save on duplicate things being done?
Tom being restricted on posting deals is like running out of lives on sonic the hedgehog zzzzzzzzzzzz lol
