Could the next Chinese Product You Buy Kill You?

Other

Unlike many other viruses like HIV which were passed through bodily contact this new Chinese Corona virus can infect through the air so wonder if there is a risk of the virus being received in products we buy from China. Not only that many products assembled elsewhere in the world have a high percentage of Chinese made parts. China is the workshop of the world. I guess the highest risk is in food products received from China or possibly products like toothpaste.

I think viruses can last for up to about a week outside a host so presumably products shipped by land and on the water would take longer than this but what about higher value items that use air transport.

Sadly another virus that has crossed the species barrier due to the horrible conditions we keep animals in and definitely adds weight to the logic of going vegetarian its extremely unlikely a virus that can effect a potato is going to cross the species barrier to humans thats for sure.

Whoa! this topic did make me think of the much wider implications. As you say, shipping takes longer but the crews would be affected first and then the docks where they unload - dock workers - posties - final address. We're doomed if they don't contain the problem.

This is where the panic sets in https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7920253/Coronavirus-fears-shuts-two-UK-police-stations.html?ico=pushly-notifcation-small

Thought they said yesterday that they didn't know how it was transmitted and they weren't convinced it was airborne

I think existing corona viruses are airborne, sneezing and coughing etc but lets hope this isn't like those.

BonzoBanana just read they think it was transferred from snakes that were being sold in a seafood market where they first noticed the outbreak, they've also closed 2 UK police stations over fears of the virus. Sars all over again
