Do You like Nicknames?
Ask a Question
I lot of the time people from childhood get a nickname which is basically their name shortened.
I don't have a nickname because my name cannot be shortened but I like nicknames.
Do you have a nickname and do you like it or hate it?
Depends if it's creative, original or just acceptable.
Something like "BigBoner69" is pretty childish and immature. Yeah, I guess it was funny when we were 12 but that's a long time ago.
My nickname is not from my name and I really like it. My childhood best friend made it up and it stick on me.
Only my dad and best friend call me by my nickname. I was never fussed about a nickname. Mine is a shorter version of my name, although I did have one in secondary school which I hated and I'm glad no one uses anymore.
I got a nickname at school. Even the teachers had it down in their registers rather than my real name. My dad went crazy at one teacher who could not find me on her list at a parents evening and she did not know my real name. The day I left school I made sure it was never used again.
I personally am not a huge fan of nicknames for myself although I do have friends and colleagues with nicknames who much prefer being called by their nickname.
I always felt deprived not having one lol. However, when we emigrated to Australia in the 60s I got a lot of stick for my sickly white complexion, as compared to the bronzed Aussies, and was often called Casper, but not in a friendly way!
my brother used to call me casper because i was pale. My friends all call me Sho (a shortened version of my surname), im married now and have a different surname but they still call me it
I‘ve always wanted a nickname because i‘m not keen on my name, but there isnt really anything you can do to it to change it
