Noisy Neighbours
Ask a Question
My neighbours are having their drive redone and their workmen decided to start drilling etc before 8am! I understand they have to get on with their work but do you think there should be a law that you can only make this level of noise from, for example 9am-7pm. Other noises like this should include mowing the grass, cutting the hedge, revving engines etc. What’s your opinion on this?
I know the law states they can’t start making that sort of noise till 8am and I believe they cant make load notices after 7pm. My neighbour cuts his grass in the summer every Sunday at 7am.
I love our neighbours but if I had 1 mowing there garden @ 7am on a Sunday I'd be employing the services of HMP as I'd be on a murder charge .
Most workmen start work at 8 and finish at 4. I think it is unreasonable to expect them to wait until 9am to start as the day is well under way by then. Workers would be on their way to work, children to school and older people don't usually lay in bed. My whole garden took less than 4 days and if a neighbour cannot put up with that for a few days then they are being unreasonable. I put a note in my neighbour's doors telling them when work would start and how long it might take, I also apologised for any inconvenience.
Basically treating folk as you would like to be treated generally works.
I think there already are some rules about this kind of thing. We have some grassy areas near where I live that the council are responsible for, and when they come to cut them, they arrive about 7.30am but don't start until 8am, and they said it's because they're not allowed to start any earlier due to the noise it makes.
Phew! I had to check this chat wasn't about me as we're having the bathroom done impromptu and he mentioned he'll need to knock down and break up the tiles and we said go for it.
I wouldn’t see a problem with them as long weren’t weekend. Then again the house alarm could be going off and I wouldn’t wake
but they have to do there jobs
On the whole it's not too noisy where we live.
I think the times for construction changed due to covid, or government was considering it
My neighbours have very loud parties from nine in the evening to two in the morning. It's hard to sleep throughout it as it is but they also have flashing lights blaring at my bedroom window
That is something the Council can help with....have you been in touch with them....it'll be the environment team. Sounds awful x
k4ren2006 I haven't been in touch with the council. I am worried it will cause more trouble. Once when I did make a complaint I started receiving dead birds on my doorstep
Both next door neighbours (upstairs and downstairs) got their flat fully renovated by the same builders last year. The whole thing lasted months. A few time they were there until 11pm.
I have student neighbours and the landlord gutted the property. The noise sent on for months. There were even times when you couldn't hold a conversation it was so bad. All the council did was send a letter outlining the times. Personally, I wouldn't fall out with your neighbours as the hassle could last much longer than the drive conversion x
Im afraid im being really noisy today and my neighbours probably wont be happy. Im having a tree cut down. But they'll be happy once its gone
I hardly see or hear my neighbours. When our current neighbour moved in we put up with alot of noise for month's while he gutted & renovated his property. Some days I struggled, but ultimately knew it had to be done & wouldn't last forever. When I first moved out of my parents home we lived below a couple who would frequently have extremely loud parties that would typically end with them knocking seven bells out of each other then the sounds of them making up .
